When Do Algal Blooms Become Harmful?

Stone Lab and Ohio Sea Grant have received funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to study what causes Lake Erie algal blooms to become toxic.

Scientists have gotten pretty good at forecasting how large Lake Erie's harmful algal blooms will grow each summer. A new federal government grant is aimed at overcoming the next challenge: figuring out how toxic the blooms will be.
