Thurston County Fair Provides Youth Leadership Opportunities


Over 300 4-H members participated in the Thurston County Fair by exhibiting, showing animals, doing public presentations, designing posters, keeping barns and buildings clean, interacting with the public, and caring for their animals in extreme heat. Barley Variety Trial Field Day Success


 

About forty attendees gathered at Hidden River Farms outside of Montesano, WA in July to learn about barley varieties for craft malting, brewing and distilling. The trial attempts to answer the question: Could different barley varieties provide the basis of distinctively flavored whiskeys and other craft beverges? Read about it in this Thurston Talk article.

Grant submitted to develop feasibility study for food processing facility


 

A farmer work group is collaborating with WSU Extension, the Olympia Farmers' Market, Thurston EDC, Saint Martins University, The Evergreen State College, and South Puget Sound Community College to secure funding for a feasibility study for a farmer cooperative food processing facility in south Puget Sound. A project summary is available here

Thurston County Noxious Weed Board needs new members. 


On October 31, 2017, several of the five members  of Thurston County Noxious Weed Control Board will step down. Thurston County residents, living in districts 3 (includes south Bay, Lacey, Hawks Prairie) and 5 (includes Yelm, Rainier and points southeast) are invited to apply for appointment as voting members of the board.
