Please check your statements and let us know if you have any queries.

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Class News

Sea Horse

Good afternoon everyone. What a lovely sunny weekend we had. I hope everyone had a beautiful time at home and welcome back.
IQ THEME: dinosaurs
EQ THEME: Persistence / Resilience
Last week we had a great week with Junior Jive coming on Tuesday and A+ coming on Wednesday The .A+ facilitators demonstrated a morning ring consisting of music and movement and simple games that were so much fun, the children enjoyed it and our teachers learnt a lot.
Our theme has now changed to dinosaurs
Our focus number remains number 5.
We are still busy with our art pieces for the Auction on September 1st, so usually during quiet play our classroom will be busy with the art pieces.
Thank you to all parents getting their kids to school on time, it is soooo much appreciated.
As you all know the teachers will be going away on conference this weekend and will not be attending school on Friday, although I will be here.
We also have Mila Salmon going away overseas on Friday 25th with her parents. They will be returning in September. Seeing that Candice will be away, Lisa Gardner will be in place of our class rep.

There will be NO show and tell this week.
SHOW AND TELL WILL BE
WEDNESDAY 30 August 2017.
Keep well
Aneeka & Monica

EQ: Waiting and persisting
General: Occupations
Language: Letter P
Mathematics: Mass/ Weight. Heavy and Light, The Calendar, Numbers 1-20,
Please note I will be away at the NAPTOSA conference on Friday. Aunty Merle will teach the group and a mom from the Angelfish Class Kerri Laubscher will assist her.
We continue with our EQ theme of waiting and persisting. It is an ongoing topic and a skill that is discussed and learned throughout the year. Every day the children have to wait their turn to show me their work or to participate in discussions but I also link the theme to stories and to problems that arise. Often argument or incidents arise due to children not being willing to wait their turn. When this happens I use the opportunity to link it to our EQ theme.
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about different countries; the various animals, food, flags and dress. In occupations this week we will concentrate on Community Workers and link it to how they help us. Please tell your child about your job and what you do at work because we will be discussing "mom and dad's" occupations.
This week we will be discussing weight and learn the concept of light, lighter and the lightest, heavy, heavier and the heaviest. Language plays a very important part in understanding maths and that is why I always get the children to show me their understanding through handling data and then explaining what they are doing. I encourage the children to give clear and logical explanations for their deductions and conclusions. If they are unable to do so then I help them to verbalise what they are doing and get them to repeat it. We do the calendar, days of the week and number every day.
Both Aunty Merle and I will be playing phonics games this week to help re-inforce the letters of the alphabet and rhyming words. We are learning letter P p this week. Please continue to send things to school. I am going to challenge each group this week to see which group brings the most things so please help your child to collect or draw things that begin with P.
We have finished all our items for the Art Auction on Friday 1 September. The children worked very hard on the various items and are really proud of what they made. Please book baby sitters and try to attend.
Skills to develop and extend at home: Identifying numbers and letters in the environment. Please continue to help your children learn to tie their shoelace. Practise and persistence will eventually get them there.

Fri 25 Aug- NAPTOSA Conference Dee not at school.
Fri 1 September- ART AUCTION.
Fri 22 September- Last Day of School and Grandparents Day
Mon 25 September -Public Holiday School is closed NO After Care.

Starfish

EQ:  Persistence/Resilience when trying to attain your goal
IQ:  Birds
Focus:  Visual discrimination
Number Concepts:  Continue shapes and patterns
We begin to discuss "Birds" for the next two weeks.  We will also continue to chat about Persistence (keep trying) when attaining a goal and Resilience (bouncing back) when struggling to attain your goal.  Any factual or story books are welcome, along with items to do with birds (perhaps a nest found on the ground in the garden or while out walking).  I am very proud of my Starfish children as now there are 7 who can tie their own shoelaces, just because of persisting and determination in attaining the class goal.  Keep encouraging your children to practise their individual and class goal.  There are wonderful YouTube videos showing different ways to tie shoelaces.  We will be having a visit from the Bird Man on Tuesday 29th August to fit in with our Bird Theme.
Our Focus over the next two weeks is "Visual Perception".  Encourage visual games, looking for items hidden in the picture.  Puzzles are good for visual, along with patterns.  Where's Wally books are great, but any book can be used.  What's missing games are also fun!
We continue with Shapes and Patterns for Number Concepts.  Encourage your child to see different shapes in their environment.  Play pattern games using shapes, threading shapes in the correct sequence.
Please diarise our upcoming Art Auction on Friday 1 September.  The Starfish children are very excited about all the items we have made.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
This Friday 25 August I will be away at the Naptosa Conference along with all the other teachers.  Mama Patience will be in charge of my class for the day.
Please sign the form on the notice board for our outing to Lakeside Fire Station on Tuesday 5th September.  Lifts are needed, please!
The Starfish class will be having a "Talent Show" on Wednesday 20 September.  Talents can be skipping with a rope, dancing to a specific song, singing a specific song, bouncing a ball, hoola hooping, whatever your child is good at.  Encourage them to practise their talent to show their friends on the day.
Important Dates to Diarise:
Friday 25 August - Naptosa Conference - Teachers away

Friday 1 September - Art Auction
Tuesday 5 September - Lakeside Fire Station outing for Starfish and Angelfish classes
