Back to School - with BHee
Dear <<Name>>
The summer holidays are at an end, so its now back to work and school for most of us - although there's still plenty of activity to enjoy in the world about us, check our monthly Nature Now diary for what's happening out there.
Natural learning opportunities abound in The Living Coast, and many of our schools have been fortunate to benefit from the fantastic support of the Brighton & Hove environmental education project - BHee - over the past six years (and counting).
Hence in this month's issue we are celebrating the great achievements of this initiative to encourage a healthy future for our children, as described in our Bio Blog (excerpt below right) by Sheila Gundry, Education Manager at Resource Futures who run the BHee programme funded by the city council.
A particular highlight of BHee's work has been helping children (and their teachers!) to get outdoors and experience the natural wonders of our area through fun learning. Read about their summer outing in our Spotlight piece, and see for yourself their wonder in the short video of their day on The Living Coast.
Take a look too at the 'WoW' section (below left) to find out who the greenest schools in Brighton & Hove are - those that have been recognised as 'Green Flag' Eco-Schools.
Meanwhile there's plenty happening outside of school/work for children and adults alike, including the British Science Festival in Brighton this week and the Great British Beach Clean on the weekend of 15-18th September. Check out our Calendar (summary list, left) of all the local eco-events for the low down!
Have fun learning - as you're never too old!

Little Treasures
Nelson Mandela said: “Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future”.
To what extent however do local children understand the importance of their local environment so that they can take action now and for the future?
For the last six years the Brighton and Hove environmental education (BHee) programme has been tackling this very issue. This supports the work of The Living Coast with schools to connect people and nature to pioneer a positive future.
The BHee programme is led by Resource Futures in partnership with Sussex Wildlife Trust and funded by Brighton and Hove City Council.
Nearly 10,000 children have been involved in BHee workshops, plus over 13,000 in assemblies and 640 in inter-school events!
BHee supports schools to work through the national Eco-Schools programme, resulting in 11 schools (see list, left) that have achieved the prestigious Green Flag award - the best area in the South East!... read full blog
