Hello all,
This Friday night the Oneg will be sponsored in honor of the new Temple Shir Shalom (TSS) Board members. We will all enjoy a lovely night of community and tasty treats! Thank you, TSS. See you there.
L'Shalom,
Your Friendly Temple Israel Office Staff
August School Supply Drive
Did you know that 65% of Orange, Seminole, and Osceola county students can’t afford school supplies? The
Temple Israel Sisterhood and
Ma'asim Tovim have partnered with the
Young Friends of 90.7 WMFE to host a drop-off location this entire school year for the
ContinuED School Supply Drive to help kids in need. You can drop your donated supplies in the boxes located in the lobby, Roth Social Hall, or outside the office.
The most needed supplies are: packs of No. 2 pencils, 8- or 10-count packs of washable markers, packs of pocket folders, packs of loose-leaf paper, 24-count crayon packs, and hand sanitizer. This drive is in partnership with
A Gift For Teaching. More information is available at
www.wmfe.org/supplydrive.
We would love for MAGAL students to help their peers who are less fortunate as they return to school in August by bringing in the school supplies listed above on Sunday, August 20 and Sunday, August 27.
Other essential supplies include: 12-count packages of colored pencils, backpacks, block erasers, books, calculators, composition notebooks, construction paper, disinfecting wipes, dry-erase markers, facial tissues, flash drives, glue bottles, glue sticks, highlighters, kids' clothes/socks/underwear, pens, protractors/compasses, rulers, scissors, spiral notebooks, and watercolors.
Monthly Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry Drive
MAGAL will continue to collect non-perishable food items for the
Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry this year. However, rather than weekly themes, we will collect one type of food for the entire month. Starting in September, please bring in items for a
"Pancake Breakfast," such as boxes of pancake, waffle, or muffin mix and plastic bottles of syrup (no glass, please). The Sunday collection dates for September are September 10, 17, and 24 (no school September 3).
Thank you for helping MAGAL continue with this very worthy cause!
Simchat Torah Honorees!
Each Simchat Torah we honor two people whose regular service to Temple Israel has greatly enhanced our religious and social experience. Please submit your nominations as soon as possible.
The nominations will be tallied by the Ritual Committee and the results announced on Yom Kippur. Our Hattan/Kalat Torah and Hattan/Kalat Breisheet will be honored with an Aliyah on Simchat Torah. Any Temple Israel member is eligible for nomination except President Mark Kluger, vote counter Natan Brener, and the prior three years nominees:
- Arlene Silver & Linda Silverman (2016)
- Judi Chisdes & Phyllis Kamenoff (2015)
- Michael Fineberg & Sharon Sachs (2014)
Congregants may make a nomination by leaving a message at 407.435.8613 or sending an e-mail to natanbrener@gmail.com, or delivering your ballot to the Ritual mailbox in the Synagogue office.
Thank you!
