RAIN RAIN GO AWAY FUN DAY WILL HAPPEN ANYWAY!

The largest fundraising event of our calendar, Fun Day 2017 was another great success despite the wet weather! We were so happy to see all of our friends (two legged and four) join us at the Ashton Court Estate to be part of our favourite day of the year. We had an array of activities including a Fun Dog Show, Photo Entry Competition, Doggie Sprint, children’s activities, refreshments and agility demonstrations (with the chance to have a go yourself) – not to mention our ever popular market place which was brimming with everything from fine foods to beautiful art works. We would like to say a very special thank you to everyone that attended, our stall holders, dog handlers and most of all the wonderful team of volunteers that worked so hard to make the event happen.

Scooby, a 14 year old Shih Tzu has had such a hard few months, his owner passed away leaving him sad and lonely in kennels.
Poor Scooby came to us with only one eye; we are not sure how he lost it, whether from illness or from birth. We have been giving him regular care for his remaining eye that was repetitively sore and weepy.
After becoming worse and causing Scooby pain we referred him to an eye specialist at Rowe Vets, the prognosis was not great, and with an ulcer and infection surgery was necessary to save his one eye and stop him from going blind. Although we knew the surgery would be costly, saving his sight would be priceless and although he is an older boy, he is full of life and after such a hard few months he deserved happiness. The surgery was a challenge due to the size of the hole in the cornea, sadly it was also noticed that he had a severe cataract which needed to be removed. They also found his eyelids were too big for his eyes making it difficult for him to blink whilst also rubbing on the cornea. After finishing his cataract and corneal repair they also repaired his eyelids to give him the best chance of his corneal repair healing and not coming back.
The next week will be critical to his recovery as his eye will remain liable to rupturing again until the stitches heal.
The wonderful vet charged a discounted fee of £1000 for all of his surgery and they are keeping him there free of charge until they know he is on the road to recovery. This wonderful gesture of kindness will give Scooby the best possible chance at keeping his sight and we cannot thank the veterinary team enough. We will of course keep people updated on his progress, but in the meantime £1000 is still so much for us to find and we would be so grateful if you could donate to his fund and help us continue to give all our rescues the medical treatment they need and deserve.

DOG RESIDENT OF THE MONTH - Stan & Eric

Stan & Eric were brought in as strays and they have sadly been here for some time. Stan is an older boy who loves people but really doesn’t like other dogs (apart from Eric) and Eric is wary of people, but is OK with other dogs. Sadly although we would like to see them go together, as they have been here for over a year and have such different needs, we would consider separate homes if they could go at the same time. Stan is starting to slow down and has had recent knee surgery which means he can only go for shorter walks, but Eric loves trotting alongside someone as they walk for miles. They sometimes get fed up of each other and Stan does like the attention all to himself  and can pick on Eric although in a home environment this may be different. Once Eric know you, he is a really affectionate little dog and both love nothing more than a cuddle on the couch. Both will need plenty of company during the day and would prefer to live with adults only or older teens.

CAT RESIDENT OF THE MONTH - Podrick

Poor Podrick was found wandering around a school playing field with his sister Nial. He is extremely scared of cattery life and quite nervous of people, but with some time, patience and love he is still young enough to develop into a lovely family member.

If you have a big heart, quiet home and a lot of love, this kitten would love to meet you.
