September 2017

<<First Name>>, hi,

I hope you are well and have enjoyed a spectacularly fabulous summer break.

As always, loads going on at D6, so lets get straight down to business. Something for everyone here, so grab a flat white (or tea if you must), head for the comfy zone, sit back and read on.

We lead once again with Cristobal & The Sea, who are gearing up for the release of their brilliant new LP, Exitoca on City Slang on Sept 22. Read more below and check out the new video to their latest single, Steal My Phone. They will be touring the new album around European cities, see tour dates below also. Let us know if you want to go along to any of these shows and we'll do our best to get you on the guestlist.

On the sync front we bring you the latest European sync for Feder's (D6F) phenomenally successful debut hit single, "Goodbye", which continues to garner attention and grace the airwaves. Antonio Banderas is a fan and has chosen the song for his new fragrances, The Secret Temptation. Check out the ad below.

Still on sync, Robert Urbanus of Sterns Music has teamed up with The Vinyl Factory to create and release remixes of classic tracks from the iconic label. Check out the video below, where Robert takes you on a private tour of the old bank vault housing this important archive. The first tracks on the new label, Sterns Edits, are Bright Sky Over Monrovia and Sama Kebbalu by Gambian kora master Dawda Jobarteh, remixed by Ben Gomori. The limited run of 300 vinyl copies sold out in less than a week, but the music will be available on Sept 15 as a download and on streaming services. You, of course, can find it right here. We will add all future remixes to the dropbox as they become available.

In vinyl news, continuing the African theme, we are featuring the repressing of the first ever release of the fabled Syliphone catalogue from post independence Guinea, Orchestre Paillote. You can hear / download this and other Syliphone releases, including the legendary Bembeya Jazz, in the usual place. Or if you want to get your hands on a copy then head over to the Sterns shop.

And finally, we bring you the excellent latest release by Delia Gonzalez on DFA Records, "Horse Follows Darkness", described by one critic as "like Steve Reich on an analogue synth bender ..."

That's all for now, folks. Until the next time.

Cheers.

Inside the Sterns Music vault
Robert Urbanus of Stern's Music takes us inside the incredible vaults and archives of the seminal African label. Worldwide sub-publishing by District 6 Music.

The very first release on Editions Syliphone Conakry, created by the first President of Independent Guinea, Sékou Touré, under the radical cultural policy of Authenticité. Orchestre Paillote, heavily influenced by Cuban music and jazz, later became Keletegui et ses Tambourins and the band recorded some of the finest, most memorable songs of the golden age of west African music.
