All you need to know for this week and more in the Revival.
FROM THE EDITOR
OPEN DOOR POLICY...RIGHT?

Sorry about last week, after prepping for my sermon I just did not have any time to sit down and write out an article. So much has happened in the last few weeks. It is a short week for us as I am taking the family camping this weekend, so it make more sense to just combine last week and this week. My sermon last week was about fear, so I was following trending news stories that had to do about fear...stemming mainly from disease, drug abuse and North Korea. But then Hurricane Harvey ransacked Houston and completely left me speechless. The deluge that dumped 60 inches of rain in some areas could only be compared to Biblical proportions. Our prayers definitely go out to those who have been affected, many losing everything they have worked for in life.

But the story that really stood out was that of Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston. News reports went out stating that the well known church had closed their doors, then Mr. Osteen stated they were always open and it was just a misrepresentation made on the news. Now, I am not here to pick sides and to claim what is truth and what is fallacy. What I do know is that there was a social media frenzy against Joel Osteen and the Lakewood Church. All of a sudden he was under attack, not only because the stadium that houses the church was apparently closed, but everyone insisted that Mr. Osteen should be housing people in his mansion.
"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them." Hebrews 6:10
But as for the Lakewood Church, perhaps no one asked them to be used as a shelter? Perhaps they did not have the proper supplies to convert into a shelter? Or perhaps they didn't want to put anyone, in this litigious society, in harms way. Again, not here to praise or condemn the Lakewood Church, but I do want to reflect on our own efforts. We have to ask ourselves...in a time of crisis, would we be a church of refuge? Would we take in the world and offer them shelter, if asked...even if not asked?

We really have to think about what measures we have in place, a "crisis plan", to consider something like this happening in our hometowns. Tornados, floods, ice storms, even electrical failures are all possibilities of what could happen in an instant and affect many lives in the surrounding areas that we call our "mission field". Or would we sit back and allow the volunteers to figure it out? I think it is a valid question and one that would be a true litmus test to the compassionate spirit within your church.

The good news is, the human drive to survive will kick in and volunteers will be there to help. I saw one scene in Houston of a long line of citizens waiting...not for food, shelter or handouts...but they were there to help those in need. The interstates were full from people bringing boats, RV's and other aid. Sporting goods stores are running out of boats and canoes as Good Samaritans are purchasing them in order to help save humanity. Not everyone can help, not everyone can be that mobile or has the resources...but that doesn't stop us from thinking about if that happened in our town, what would we do? Would we keep our doors open? Or would we keep silent while others jumped in?

Thanks for reading and continue to keep not only Texas, but India, Bangladesh and Nepal in your prayers for the catastrophic flooding that is affecting lives all around the world.

Lord Jesus, please come soon.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Calling all Lay-Evangelists!  In preparation for our Evangelistic Series starting February 9, 2018, we will be training several individuals who want to provide the message each night.  We will be conducting several "test runs" over the next few weeks in the afternoon after services.
We will be hosting a open gym & game night. Bring your gym shorts, favorite board/card games, and/or snacks and enjoy an evening of fellowship and fun. If you have any questions, please see Banabas or Sandra Seaton.
Our Evangelism / Personal Ministries Council will be meeting in the Conference Room.  Any interested person is encouraged to attend as we plan our outreach into the community each month. Please submit any agenda items to Josh Dobson by the Sunday before the meeting.
John Bradshaw from It Is Written is conducting online training for "Evangelism Made Easy". If you would like to watch past modules or new ones, click the link below:

Our Church Board will be meeting in the Conference Room.  We host an open forum, so anyone is welcome to attend these meetings, regardless if you are a ministry leader or not. Please submit any agenda items to Pastor Jehle by the Sunday before the meeting.
Evangelist Richie Halversen will be in Gainesville on September 16th to provide a couple modules on creating an evangelistic culture in our church.
We will be having a booth again at Mule Camp Days on October 6-8 in the Gainesville Town Square.  We will be providing free blood pressure screenings, passing out literature, promoting church ministries, and passing out free water and prizes for the kids.  If you wish to volunteer or donate cases of water, please see Connie Dobson.
If you are interested in donating a case of water for Mule Camp, you can stack the cases in the hallway by the gymnasium.
We are accepting new or gently used stuffed animals (small, please) that we will be donating to the local police and fire departments to give to children in need. Police and Firefighters use these to gain the trust of children in stressful situations. We will be accepting donations thru Mule Camp. If you have any questions, please see Connie Dobson.
This is the Adventist School of the church that Jordan Blyden spoke at when he served as an evangelist in the Philippines. Many of those who traveled there saw the deteriorated conditions of the school and are looking to their local congregations for help. For every dollar that is donated, it acts as double the local currency there. A GoFundMe page will be established, or you can donate locally by marking "Philippine School Project" on your tithe envelope.

You can also donate at gofundme.com/projectphilippinesschool

The Women's Ministries team is looking for help or donations in their efforts to make boys shorts and girls dresses for international missions. If you are interested in helping or donating, please see Melba Smith or Polly Dunlap.
We are planning on installing playground equipment in preparation for our future church school. If you are willing to help in any way, please see John or Manuela Radu.
Please remember to keep our church and school in your prayers.
If you have any VISUAL/VIDEO ONLY announcements that need to be added to the announcement deck that is shown in this publication, please click "Submit New Announcement" button below to submit your content.  In order to meet the production demands of supplying video announcements, we have had to move up our deadline for receiving last minute announcements.  For announcements that need to be released by the next Sabbath, please submit content no later than Tuesday night.
