CBS is pushing hard into the Australian market with an agreement to buy local broadcast group Network Ten and plans to launch its SVoD service, CBS All Access, in the country; it recently announced plans to launch in Canada in early 2018. Paramount is also looking to international SVoD, preparing launch of a new service in the Nordics.
In the UK, as Ofcom continues to investigate the proposed 21st Century Fox acquisition of Sky, Fox has dropped Fox News from Sky, citing low audiences and financial losses.
The rush to bolster channel offers on virtual MSOs continues this week as Hulu's linear TV streaming service, Hulu TV, has added The CW to its channel lineup, while competitor, AT&T's DirecTV Now, has added a further 25 ABC, Fox and NBC local affiliates, giving these channels presence in a total of 70 DirecTV Now markets.
Altice, which owns French operator SFR, has launched a new movies and drama channel, Altice Studio, in France and RTL Group has increased its stake in ad tech company, SpotX, to 100%.
