Frog What world do you want to pass on?
River in countryside
As an organisation, we have a very clear vision of the world we want to pass on to our children and future generations.

What’s your vision? We’ve joined up with Remember A Charity  to help you have your say.

When you leave a gift to a charity like Freshwater Habitats Trust in your will, you help us continue our work towards a future where all threatened freshwater plants and animals are thriving, with strong, stable populations.

Leaving a gift, of any size, helps us build a network of clean, healthy, wildlife-rich freshwater habitats across the UK.

Your gift will help create a world where people understand and care for freshwater habitats and wildlife.

Next week is Remember A Charity in Your Will Week.

Newt A new approach to protecting Great Crested Newts

Freshwater Habitats Trust is working with partners Environment Bank, Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, NatureMetrics and ABSustain to develop a new approach to Great Crested Newt conservation.

Natural England announced a couple of years ago that they would be changing the way they recommend protecting Great Created Newts. The new approach focusses on ensuring thriving populations spread throughout the landscape rather than trying to protect every single individual newt. We are now preparing for a trial of this new approach in the South Midlands, from Oxfordshire in the west to Bedfordshire in the east.

August 2017

Hello!

How's your summer been? It's been an exciting one for us: Pondweed Leafhopper was found at a new site, we visited amazing Flagship sites packed with wonderful plants and animals, and the wet weather created perfect conditions for Tadpole Shrimps in the New Forest. See more news like this on Facebook and Twitter.

There's also been some sad news. We’re sad to report the death earlier this summer of  Mericia Whitfield who was a key member of the original Pond Action team that led to the foundation of the Freshwater Habitats Trust.

Flagship Focus: Gallows Bridge Farm

The rare Tassel Stonewort
The Flagship Pond project provides a unique opportunity to trial new ways of helping some of our most threatened wetland species. At Gallows Bridge Farm we’ve been working to protect one of the rarest wetland plants in the county.

PondNet training targets smashed

Sharing skills with PondNet volunteers Our People, Ponds and Water team have exceeded the targets of running 180 training events, and training 1500 people in pond survey and species identification skills! We're so pleased - PondNet is a vital national pond monitoring network, gathering evidence on the state of ponds and their wildlife.
