Dear <<First Name>>
Are you ready for the 2017-18
Season Open Day September 16, 2017
We are almost there! To ensure that we are set up to enjoy a fantastic season, there are many volunteer helpers who need to be thanks for their efforts during the off-season:

1. Our RUST team have been busy over the winter on the club house and repairing support & LTS boats

2. All who were able to help at Working Bees. With good weather on both days we were able to get quite a lot done including the upgrade of the seats in the gents and ladies change rooms, installation of a timber “nose” to the fibreglass decking, sanding and painting of tables, flag poles, walls and the “grand piano”, repair of decking, gardening, waterproofing, refurbishment of security lights, construction of shelves, reorganisation of the George Eden room, clean up of Woodford Bay shed, upgrade of Club’s tender AND the construction and installation of a specially designed modesty panel in the ladies change rooms.

3. Ian Meggitt and team for getting the Arvors to Palm Beach and back for their annual service - see story bellow.

4. Karyn for her efforts around training programmes, LTS and getting Membership renewals programme out to all of us.

5. You may not notice it at first but thanks to our grant from the Lane Cove Council and under the watchful eye of John Hayward there are solar panels on the roof of the Club. Plus Council has supported us by updating some of the facilities within the ladies and mens change rooms/bathrooms.

Thanks these and many more.
Renewed your membership yet?
This is an important and exciting year for the Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff Club community as we celebrate 100 years of sailing from our current location.  While the Club takes as its origin a program for the Lane Cove Sailing Club for the 1896/97 season, in 1918 the Club took on 12ft Skiff racing as its main racing class. Upon the demise of the Cremorne Club at the end of the Great War, Lane Cove became the home of 12ft skiff racing in Australia. This year we will celebrate and I want you to be part of that celebration.

Those who may not actively sail at the Club but make use of the facilities please register as Associate Members.  Others who would like to show their support can register as a Supporter - a donation of $50 as a Supporter will also make sure your receive regular enews and be listed in the Annual Report in this historic year.

Please be sure to have your Boat Licence and RSA numbers handy to include in your registration - and also include how you can assist with the running the of the Club by volunteering in some capacity.

Renewals due date Sept 1

The Arvors Trip North
Ably skippered by Cathy Lunsmann & Shona Phillips with crews Ian Meggitt & Dan Phillips, the Club’s two Arvor support boats, Ted Griffith & Helen Molesworth were ferried to Mackenzie Marine at Palm Beach last Saturday for their annual slipping.  The crews hove to about 2 kilometres off Bilgola Beach when they came across two very large seals sunning themselves only to then find themselves in the midst of a large pod of dolphins enjoying breakfast (David Attenborough eat your heart out).  Jack Winning met the crews at Palm Beach and chauffeured them back to Longueville, the entire exercise taking just on 5 hours.
Club member and twelve footer sailor Ian Begg (proprietor of Mackenzie Marine) would be quite happy to talk to Club members about their slipping and shipwright requirements.

Thanks to Ian Meggitt for this contribution.
Better Sailing
For the upcoming holidays we are introducing a new course Better Sailing in the first week of September/October school holidays.  This course is for junior sailors that have their own sabot or Laser 4.7, or are seriously considering purchasing a boat to join the Saturday afternoon racing for the 2017-18 season.  These sailors will have done at least one Learn to Sail, and joined in with the Learn to Race.  These sailors can sail in light to moderate winds, and are keen to give sailing 1-up in a boat a go … if they are not already doing it.  The Better Sailing Camp will be a great way for junior sailors to brush up their skills after a long break over winter.  It will be giving sailors a kick-start to the season so they feel more confident out on the water.

We are always weather dependant and will be covering better boat handling skills, working out start line bias, race committee flags & what they mean, approaching mark roundings, rules on the water and so on while adventuring around the river.  For our more experienced sailors who are planing regattas such as States or Nationals we will look at building a plan to prepare for these events.  We are also incorporating the Junior sleepover on Thursday September 28.  Cost for the week is $300.   To sign up for this week:

Mike is a two-time Canadian Olympian - Beijing 2008 (Laser) and London 2012 (470s) - and now coaches a range of teams & individuals in Australia.
