Welcome to our Meet the Parents “Back to School” newsletter

As we gear up for our 2017 events, we bring excellent news of this year’s exam results across Camden’s secondaries.
Camden Above the National Average

Camden students put in a fine performance in the exam halls this summer. In August, as the results rolled in, it emerged that a quarter of GCSE entries were awarded the top grades – A, A* or 7 and above for maths and English (under the new grading system). This was 5 per cent above the figure for all schools nationally.

Meanwhile, 72 per cent of all GCSE entries in Camden schools were awarded a grade C or grade 4 and above (a ‘standard’ pass under the new system). This is 6 per cent above the national figure.

As for the very highest grade - 9 - this was secured by 5 per cent of all entrants – compared with the national average of 3 per cent. Students need higher marks to get a 9 than to achieve an A*.

At A-level, provisional figures show that the overall pass rate at grades A* to E was 98.1 per cent - again above the national average of 97.9 per cent. It means that half of all Camden A-level students were a grade higher than last year.

There were some very strong individual performances in all schools. Here’s a selection of happy students:
Heading to Oxford University: Saskia Hern has won her dream place to read biochemistry. She studied at the la Swap sixth form consortium (made up of students from Acland Burghley, La Sainte Union, Parliament Hill and William Ellis schools). Photography by Justin Thomas

Nacima Mohamed from Regent High School gained two A stars and an A in her A levels
William Ellis stars Mohammed Miah, Rio Carasco and Stanley Harrison – who featured
in the Meet the Parents film about WES.

State v Private

At a national level, there are signs that state schools are closing the gap with private schools when it comes to results. For more on this take a look at:

Get Ready for Open Days

All Camden secondary schools are laying on the usual opportunities this autumn to look round, hear from headteachers and see students in action. If you are short of time, parents of primary pupils in years five and six can find out more about what Camden’s secondary schools can offer at the one-stop-shop Moving On event from 3.30 to 6.30pm on Thursday 14th September 2017 at the Camden Centre, Bidborough Street, King's Cross. You need to register for a free place. For more information on this and all school open events please go to:

And Get Ready for Meet the Parents 2017…

We are excited about our upcoming events, which start in just two weeks’ time. For the full list of primaries hosting Meet the Parents panels, please go to: https://meettheparents.info/latest-events/

If you are a prospective secondary school parent and there is no event at your local primary, feel free to go to one near you. You don’t have to register or pay anything – just turn up. The question and answer sessions last about an hour – you can ask anything you want then or you can have a more private chat with the families on the panel after the Q & A.  We really hope to see you there.
