UPCOMING TRAININGS

Nonprofit Start Up Series | Fall 2017 | Detroit

Starting a nonprofit organization? Join the NEW team of consultants for the Fall Nonprofit Start Up Series, a four session workshop series that will help you navigate the process of starting a nonprofit organization. You'll learn the basics of starting a nonprofit, how to develop your first board, how to fundraise, and the challenging financial aspects of a new organization. Along with this, this series is an incredible opportunity to meet and engage with other start up individuals!

Though we recommend attending the entire series, each session can also be registered for individually. If you are interested in signing up for all four sessions, register here! If you are interested in single sessions, the registration links are below.

Sessions & Dates:

Creating Sustainable Funding for a Nonprofit

Join us for a fast-paced session presented by our partners at Benevon! In this workshop, you'll see a systematic model for building sustainable funding for your mission and learn how to leave a legacy of passionate lifelong individual donors as you tailor the Benevon Model to your organization. Participants are encouraged to bring other staff, board, and volunteers to engage them in this practical and effective approach.

In this Session, you will learn:

  • An overview of the Benevon Model, an organic system for building sustainable funding for the mission of your organization from multiple-year individual donors
  • How to implement mission-focused, permission-based fundraising
  • How to make your organization more visible in your community
  • How to identify and personally cultivate individual donors who are passionate about your mission

NEW will be there, and we hope you will, too. As a proud event partner, we're excited to share an exclusive code for $100 off non-member registration rates. When you register, simply enter the code NEWFF to apply the discount.

Our Common Future is co-sponsored by Independent Sector, Council of Michigan Foundations and Michigan Nonprofit Association. PeaceJam Wants to Come to SE Michigan

PeaceJam uses the lives, works, and presence of fourteen Nobel Peace Laureates to educate young people and inspire them to action. There are a dozen areas of concern that the laureates have identified, and the youth pick an area that energizes them. There are two general meetings each year, a one-day Slam in the fall, and a two-day Youth Conference with a Nobel Laureate in the spring (both at Western Michigan U in Kalamazoo).

PeaceJam hopes to bring this work to SE Michigan. If you are interested in learning more about this program and/or supporting this works entry into SE Michigan, please contact Dave Gilbert at davegilbertpj@gmail.com.

Race to Lead – Confronting the Leadership Gap

If you were watching our Facebook feed this week, than you saw the data from the Race to Lead report! We encourage you all to spend some time with this repot, and consider how your organization can support changes in the sector.

Here is a brief summary from The Building Moving Project:

“The percentage of people of color in nonprofit executive director roles has remained under 20% for the past decade. To increase the number of people of color leading nonprofits, the sector needs a new narrative about the problem and new strategies to address it. Nonprofits have to transfer the responsibility for the racial leadership gap from those who are targeted by it (aspiring leaders of color), to those governing organizations.”
