We are so excited and feel so fortunate to have winemaker and proprietor Chris Tolley pouring his amazing, award winning lineup from Moon Curser today! Big bold reds, unique varietals, and a huge award list this is a tasting you do not want to miss! His Syrah and Border Vines are two of our best selling reds in store as well as his sold out super unique Tempranillo, originally a Spanish grape, and one of Kim's absolute favourite reds. His Dead of Night which is also sold out at the winery uses the Tannat grape, another very unique and big dry red. His library tasting this evening sold out fast so make sure you come and taste his wines during the regular tasting from 3-6pm today!

Tomorrow we are featuring some new vintage releases and new wines in the store. Gordon Fitzpatrick of Fitzpatrick winery has released his amazing Riesling, which was featured in our CLUB SPW September boxes and is truly exquisite. We are super excited to have the best-selling Perseus Rose back in store as well, brand new vintage of 2016. Don't think because summer is over that rose season is done! Roses are super versatile and great to drink all year long, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas time as they are the ideal pairing with Turkey. 3 brand new reds for Saturday as well, Kismet's award winning 2015 Syrah, Black Sage 2014 Cabernet Franc, which is very limited! Finally the brand new 2014 vintage of Clos du Soleil's Celestiale. This red is one of our best sellers, certified organic and tasting so delicious!

We hope you all have an amazing long weekend as we say goodbye to summer. Come and taste our fantastic line up this Friday and Saturday and get your perfect long weekend wines!

Cheers,

Weekend Tastings

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST
3-6 PM

Moon Curser 2016 Afraid of the Dark $22.85+taxes

NEW VINTAGE RELEASE~SOLD OUT AT WINERY

The 2016 Afraid of the Dark has a slightly higher proportion of Viognier than in previous years and is one of the most aromatic versions of Afraid of the Dark we have made.

The nose is highly aromatic with nectarine, apricot and peach notes. The palate of the wine is dry and crisp but the texture provides for a full mouthfeel. Characters similar to those of the nose show on the palate but there is a perceivable minerality.

The wine is ready to drink now or it can be cellared for up to 2 years if preserving the crisp, bright character of the wine is the objective. Further aging will lead to the development of intriguing secondary flavour characteristics such as marzipan, honey and nutty caramel.

SILVER MEDAL - 2017 Los Angeles International Wine Competition

Moon Curser 2014 Syrah
 $25.98+taxes

BEST SELLER

This is a dry, medium bodied red wine. On the nose and palate it shows black cherry and floral notes mixed with sweet cedar, all supported by bright acid and tannin. The wine does show some of the black pepper character of Okanagan Syrah but less so than in cooler vintages.
In 2014 we returned to using small amounts of French oak. In the past, we exclusively used new Hungarian oak barrels which provided a nice complement to the black pepper notes in Syrah. Hungarian oak provides background aromas like clove and allspice but fewer of the ‘higher’ notes of cinnamon or sweet wood. We decided that since the 2014 vintage had a riper profile, it would benefit from some new French oak.

This wine pairs very well with red meats, especially venison or lamb, as well as tomato based pasta dishes. Our Syrah 2014 drinks beautifully at present, but would age well over the next 4 to 6 years under proper cellar conditions.

Moon Curser 2014 Border Vines $25.98+taxes

NEW VINTAGE RELEASE
In the glass, this wine is a deep garnet. On the nose, black field berries and ripe currant characters dominate. These aromas are joined on the palate by notes of clove, blackcurrants and leather. With 40% of the blend being Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine shows the blackcurrant characters of Cabernet Sauvignon with interesting ‘twists’ delivered by the Carménère and Malbec. Specifically, Carménère helps deliver viscosity and off-fruit characters such as spice (think clove, fennel seed, black pepper). Malbec softens the currant characters, tempering them with milder, more aromatic lighter fruit (think blueberry, blackberry). Blend 14% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot, 20% Carménère.
Steak would be a good match for this wine in its youth. After some age the wine would agree to accompany many savory style dishes or ‘red sauce’ pasta dishes. Our 2014 Border Vines drinks well now, and will respond favorably to up to 10 years of cellar aging.

Moon Curser 2014 Dead of Night $39.55+taxes

NEW VINTAGE RELEASE~UNIQUE BLEND

This is a dry, medium to full-bodied wine.  The nose displays aromas of dark cherry, Italian plum and violets.  Notes of pepper and tobacco can be found as well.
Our Dead of Night has a well-balanced and integrated oak element that doesn’t overpower the other aspects of the wine – it integrates with, and compliments the primary characteristics of the fruit.
On the palate the wine is rich, with good acidity.  The palate is consistent with the nose with its cherry and plum notes.  The finish is long and generous with fine and soft tannins. The 2015 vintage shows good structure and should age well for 10 years.

Moon Curser 2014 Tempranillo $30.15+taxes

BEST  SELLER~ SOLD OUT AT WINERY
This dry, medium bodied red wine has a nose of red cherry, violets, tobacco and vanilla.

The palate follows the nose with added elements of black pepper, red cherries, leather and a hint of cedar. Rich and round with abundant soft tannin, the wine finishes long.

The 2014 vintage of Tempranillo shows good concentration of fruit on the palate. Dark red and bright cherry dominate, along with the more traditionally encountered savory characteristics like leather, mushroom and earth.

This is a complex wine that drinks well now, but would evolve nicely in the bottle over the next 3 to 7 years. Only 367 cases produced.

Fitzpatrick 2016 Lookout Riesling $25.30+taxes
NEW VINTAGE RELEASE~NEW WINE IN STORE

We picked our Block 8 Riesling early to keep the alcohol level a little lower than the vintage may otherwise have produced, and also to retain its great natural acidity. A long, slow, cool ferment was done to enhance its fruitiness and delicate aromatics. We stopped the ferment early, prior to dryness, to allow the residual sugar to complement the acidity – a little sweet to pair with the sour.

Brilliant aromatics of lime, apricot & honeycomb with the slightest hint of beeswax. The palate has some substantial weight to it offering lime, citrus and minerality. A focused line of acidity balances the residual sweetness. 100% of our Riesling comes from Block 8 of our estate vineyard. The soil type in Block 8 is Ratnip. Almost anything salty and savoury. A simple BLT would be perfection. Only 444 cases produced.

It’s interesting to deeply chill this wine, and watch how the interplay between the sweetness and sourness evolves as it warms.
