30 MW OAKEY SOLAR FARM STARTED CONSTRUCTION

The Oakey Solar Farm is officially underway, with the official turning of the soil ceremony on 22nd June 2017 marking the beginning of construction. Planned and Developed by Canadian Solar, and backed by funding from ARENA, the 30 MW Oakey Solar farm will be a key contributor to the QLD government’s 50% renewable energy target. Present at the ceremony were the Project Manager from Canadian Solar, Toowoomba Regional Councilor Carol Taylor, representatives from the RCR Infrastructure team, as well as land owner Ian Speed and his family.

Toowoomba Regional Councilor Carol Taylor praised the Oakey Solar Farm as a new and positive step in building a brighter future for the region and inspiring younger generations to stay on the land with new opportunities. 120 new jobs will be created during the construction period, and the project will benefit from utilising local talents, businesses and resources, a great benefit for the region. The Oakey Solar Farm represents new possibilities for Australian land owners, as land owner Ian Speed identified; supplementing agriculture with an additional stable income source.

This latest development in the Oakey Solar Project is one welcomed with enthusiasm by Canadian Solar, after its planning and development period.

$100 MILLION NARRABRI SOUTH SOLAR FARM

Canadian Solar has made submissions to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment for review as part of its plan to develop a new solar farm in northern NSW. 7 km from Narrabri, the proposed 60 MW solar farm will cover 200 hectares of farmland on the "Glenville" property owned by the Kerrie and Vince Haire; pictured above with Canadian Solar Australia Senior Manager Yu Chan, Canadian Solar Project Developer Shane Melotte, and Narrabri Shirt Council Economic Development Manager Bill Birch.

Canadian Solar has been working with the community in the planning process, ensuring that the local area reaps the benefits of this exciting opportunity for the region, injecting $45 million into the local economy and providing 200 jobs to local workers in the construction phase. Additionally, the Narrabri solar farm will have the capacity to power 18,000 homes, helping NSW take steps towards a clean energy future. We are awaiting approval of development and government funding, with construction expected to start in 2018.
