Hello Everyone!

How quickly is this term going?  I cannot believe that we are now the end of August.
August has been a very busy and exciting month for the program.  Here are some highlights:

  • Mueller College toured Hangar 3, Aviation Australia, Brisbane Airport Corporation Airside Operations Centre, and Airservices Tower.
  • Iona College has visited Brisbane Airport International Terminal and did the Brisbane Airport bus tour.
  • Aerospace teacher and Teacher Award Winner, Jon Collins, has has returned from his trip to Space Camp and tour of America.  (Photos below)
  • Burpengary SHS met with their new official industry partner Complete Aircraft Care and Pacific Dakota Restorations to discuss their partnership for 2018 and beyond.  (photos below)
  • Miami SHS met with their partner  industry partners Gold Coast Airport (QLD Airports) and Air 360 to discuss their support for the program, school and passion to inspire students in the industry.  Thank you to Mr. Lee Freeman (Aerospace Teacher) for hosting the round table meet and greets!  (Photos below)
  • On Saturday 19 August, the Aviation Expo was held in Brisbane and the AGISP had a table in the Community Zone that was manned by representatives from Balmoral SHS, Mueller College, Corinda SHS, Calamvale Community College and Aviation High.  The interest in the program and what the schools are doing was amazing.   The teachers and students who answered the general public's questions did a great job.    Thank you to everyone who assisted (photos below)
  • Some great meetings with potential new Gateway Schools Wilsonton SHS in Toowoomba and Mary McKillop College in Highfields. Hopefully both schools will be joining the Gateway family in 2018 or 2019!
  • Lockyer District SHS has shared that they are really growing and improving their relationships with their feeder schools which is very exciting.
  • Miami SHS held their subject selection evening this month and have had some real success with interest for the subject.  They will also be putting on a grade 10 Aerospace subject which will be a great pathway into Aerospace Studies and Aerospace Systems from 2019!  (Photo below)
  • Stephen Thrum, Engineering Technology teacher from Corinda SHS volunteered to guest speak to the Aerospace Studies class at Balmoral SHS about the Australian Space Design Competition.
  • Griffith University did a little SEQ roadshow visiting some of our schools to talk with the Aerospace classes about their Bachelor of Aviation programs.  (photos below)

Don't forget to keep sending in those photos from your adventures and to like the GISP Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
If you have anything you would like included in the monthly e-newsletters, please email me all the information and photos.

Warmest regards
Jennifer
