Spring is a miraculous time of the year, where the earth comes to life in an abundance of colour, fragrance, light and warmth.  New beginnings and new hope are part of the essence of Spring and Dainere’s Rainbow will be doing several things during this time to create a change for others.

Through elevating significant awareness, raising funds and providing a support network The Dainere’s Rainbow Team are constantly working together to bring new hope to all children diagnosed with paediatric brain tumours.  We wish to bring a ray of light in the form of improved treatment options, individualised treatment, access to clinical trials, new treatment options with less devastating and long-term side effects, the chance of a future and the dream of a cure for what is the number one disease killer of children in Australia.

If you would like to assist us to continue Dainere’s most selfless and inspirational work, please follow the Dainere’s Rainbow Facebook Page, regularly read the website, join the mailing list or contact us if you would like to be involved in any of events or awareness raising activities.

I hope that your hearts are filled with happiness and that you spread that happiness to others.  It is the little things that we do for each other that can blossom and grow and make an enormous difference81ffbf47-34c5-46d0-8c87-01e72a454f7f.png

On Sunday 13th August 2017, two extraordinary men, Mark and Jarrett took on the world’s largest and gruelling 14km fun run with the infamous Heartbreak Hill; The City2Surf.

Prior to the event they had both not only dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to training for the iconic event, they had also worked passionately and selflessly to raise funds for a cause that they both hold dear, paediatric brain tumours and Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund.

The Dainere's Rainbow Team would like to express our congratulations and humble gratitude to both Mark and Jarrett for their truly phenomenal efforts on the day.

Deepest and heartfelt gratitude must also be expressed to all those wonderful people who made donations, gave words of encouragement, shared the fundraising link or put up posters. You are all contributing to elevating awareness and raising crucial funds to improve the outcomes, give hope and create change for every single most precious child diagnosed with this horrendous disease.

It is an honour to announce that as of this evening at total of $5225.76 has been raised through Mark and Jarrett's massive efforts, and 100% of these funds has gone directly to paediatric brain tumour research at Sydney Children’s Hospital Kids Cancer Centre.  Where Associate Professor Ziegler and his team are working on significant new research that is a world first for paediatric brain tumours.

Mark and Jarrett are both extremely modest men and their thoughts and motive for the run were focused on running for a cure but they deserve special recognition for what they each achieved on the day.

Mark, the official Dainere’s Rainbow Ambassador, who ran in his second City2Surf and who only took up running in June 2015 saw his hard training and dedication pay off, as he ran a spectacular 1 hour 18 minutes and 46 seconds, smashing his 2016 time by 17 minutes. He not only did that he raised an amount over his goal of $2000. We can hardly wait to see what he can achieve in 2018, perhaps a Red Group Start time! This is an extraordinary result, and he certainly is a Dainere's Rainbow Champion.

Jarrett, running in his 5th City2Surf, always running with Dainere in his heart and thoughts, also had his dedicated and hard training and devotion see him run an amazing time of 51:51, a personal best on the course, he came 167th overall and 49th in the 20-29 Males, all best placings. He raised over $3000 and gained a preferred elite start for the 2018 event, and he too can certainly be called a Dainere's Rainbow Champion.

c9a7f869-1740-432d-8c00-d2de5474c678.pngChildhood Cancer Awareness Month was first proclaimed by former US President Obama in 2010. Since then it has become a global initiative, raising awareness across the globe for childhood cancer.

The Gold Ribbon
Awareness ribbons enable international action for a particular cause, the Gold Ribbon represents Childhood Cancer Awareness all over the world. This ribbon creates unity across the globe and represents all children diagnosed with cancer and their families. The colour gold was chosen for children diagnosed with cancer in recognition of their strength, courage and resilience.

Childhood Cancer Statistics (Children's Cancer Institute, 2016)
  • Alarmingly each year, more than 950 children and adolescents aged 0-19 in Australia and 163,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer.
  • One third of childhood cancers are diagnosed in children aged 0-4 years.
  • Three families hear the words “Your child has cancer” everyday
  • Every week, approximately three children or adolescents in Australia and 1,500 children worldwide tragically die from cancer.
  • Brain Cancer is not only the leading cancer killer of children it is all the leading disease killer of children in Australia.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
During the Month of September, we invite and encourage you to help elevate prolific and significant awareness of Childhood Cancer throughout the Community.  You may also like to raise funds or donate to a children’s cancer fund (like Dainere’s Rainbow) during this month.

You can do this by sharing as much as possible on Social Media, your school, workplace or sporting club may like to wear something gold one day during September, propose a challenge to your friends to find 30 ways in 30 days to elevate awareness of childhood cancer, post a Childhood Cancer Fact on social media each day during September, hold a morning tea, luncheon or dinner, save gold coins for the month of September and donate to a children’s cancer fund or put a Gold Ribbon on your Facebook Profile Page.

You can find further information and some tiles you can use for social media on the Dainere’s Rainbow website.

A VERY SPECIAL INITIATIVE
5aedef69-b0eb-4574-b8ac-7214740d52fa.pngThe Dainere’s Rainbow Team have come up with a very special initiative for International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and that is to display a Gold Ribbon at your home or workplace to show your support for Childhood Cancer through the month of September.  You can tie or stick a gold ribbon around a tree, letterbox, pole, fence, gate, birdbath, statue, chair, desk, computer, window, door or anywhere it can be seen.  Take a photograph and share to the Dainere’s Rainbow Facebook Page with #goinggoldinseptember or #goinggoldforchildhoodcancer

The more ribbons that are displayed at people’s homes and workplaces the more conversations that can be started, the more knowledge and more awareness.  This all can then lead to more funding and the gift of hope for a cure.  No child should have their future stolen by cancer and together we can take action and create change.

Research is the only way to improve treatments and survivorship for children with cancer.
