PREZ'S PIECE

With only 2 weeks left in the season we still have 4 teams battling for a spot in the Grand Finals.

Congratulations to our Year 12’s, 11’s, 10’s and Year 8 Gold who have made it through to the preliminary finals this weekend.

Let’s hope all 4 teams manage to push on into next week’s grand finals.

Well done also to boys form our year 8 Black team who unfortunately bowed out last week in a hard fought loss that saw just fall short.  Nether the less a great season by the boys and well done to Anthony for getting the team into the finals and playing some terrific football.  The team did however finish off on a great note on Tuesday When Sam Dhungana picked up the Runners up Trophy for the Association at the Central Conference Fairest and Best count held at Lathlain Park.

Well done Sam, a terrific effort, we are all very proud of you. To see Sam being presented with his trophy and making his speech see the link on facebook.

Congratulations also goes out the Denver Grainger–Barras who took Home the Fairest and Best award for the Year 10 White Division on the following night.  This follows on from Denver’s State representative appearance in what has been a fantastic season for Denver.  Let’s all hope he can now finish the season off with a flag with the rest of the year 10 Boys.

The count proved to be one of our most successful in recent years with 13 players finishing in the top ten across all age groups.  All the top ten results publish later in the Tigers Tales.

Our Year 6 Round Robin teams are fronting up again this week also for their last round before the Grand Final.  Unfortunately our Lesmurdie Kalamunda combined team dropped a couple of games last week and will need to fight hard this week to give themselves a chance at playing in the final. Our other team is sitting on top after last week’s round of games and will also need to battle hard this week to secure a spot in the final.  Only the top two teams at the end of the 3 weeks will get to play off for the flag so good luck to both teams in their 2 games this week.  If you want to get down and support the guys and watch our next batch youth players battle it out check the fixture in the later pages.

The club held our End of Season Presentation Days for Auskick and Year 3 – Year 5 last weekend on Saturday and Sunday.  The weather really tuned it on for us and the kids enjoyed 2 great days getting their trophy’s and having fun on the attractions provided.  It was a great end to the season for them all.  A special thanks to all the helpers on the days and especially to our canteen Volunteers who stepped up to each day to feed us all.  A big thank you to Donna, Barb, Penny, Renee, Mel, Baz and Paul who work tirelessly to keep up with the demand and who keep control in the face of unfortunately some very poor attitude by some members who felt they had to wait too long for their chips.  Thank you though to those members who showed patience and courtesy to all our volunteers who gave up their mornings to allow all the parents to enjoy the morning with their children.

Our thoughts go out to Toy who has been unwell and in hospital for the last couple of weeks. Her presence around the canteen has been sorely missed and we wish her a speedy recovery and all hope to see her up and around very soon.

We also thank Mike Perry for his efforts again this year for arranging all our trophy’s and medallions.  Mike has also been unwell and spent time in hospital over the last couple of weeks and for him to stand up as usual and put in so much work during this time, should be appreciated by all our members.

We are all preparing for our inaugural Year 12 Fairest and Best Count and evening. The count and medal presentation, which we hope will be become an annual event for our senior team before they finish their junior football careers will be known as the Steven Armstrong Medal.  The evening will be held at the Cougars Club rooms with all our Year 12’s, their parents and special invited guests attending a formal event for the present of the Medal to our Fairest and Best player in the Year 12’s this year.  We sincerely thank Steven and his family who will be attending the evening to present the medal to the winner.  As we know Steven is our most decorated Tiger having played with both Melbourne and the Eagles in the AFL.  He is a premiership player with the Eagles and is a multiple Fairest and Best winner with our club.  Steven has played and coached at the Cougars and is still currently coaching with Swan Districts.  Steven humbly accepted our offer to name our most prestigious award after him and we feel that the naming of this award recognises the high esteem that we as a club hold Steven in as a former Player at the Kalamunda Tigers.

Good luck to all our teams playing this weekend let’s hope we are all here next week getting ready to watch you all in a Grand Final.

STEVEN ARMSTRONG MEDAL

2017 sees the inaugural Year 12 Fairest and Best Count and Medal Presentation Night at the Kalamunda & Districts Junior Football Club (KDJFC).  KDJFC is honouring former Kalamunda Tigers and AFL player Steven Armstrong with the Year 12's Fairest and Best Medal named after him as we start a new tradition at KDJFC for future years.

The count and medal presentation will become an annual event for our senior team before they finish their junior football careers and will be known as the STEVEN ARMSTRONG MEDAL

The evening will be held at the Kalamunda Cougars Club rooms on Friday 15th of September with our Year 12's, along with their parents and special invited guests, attending a formal 'Brownlow' style special event for the presentation of the Medal to our Fairest and Best player in the Year 12's this year.  The night is not only just a medal count but also a celebration of our Year 12's time at the Kalamunda Tigers with video presentations throughout the evening.

As we know Steven Armstrong is our most decorated Tiger having played with both Melbourne and the West Coast Eagles in the AFL.  He is a premiership player with the Eagles and is a multiple Fairest and Best winner with our club.  Steven has played and coached at the Kalamunda Cougars Football Club and is still currently coaching with Swan Districts.

Steven humbly accepted our offer to name our most prestigious award after him and we feel that the naming of this award recognises the high esteem that we as a club hold Steven in as a former Player at the Kalamunda Tigers.

We sincerely thank Steven and his family, who will be attending the evening to present the medal to the winner.
