PTA PRESIDENT MESSAGE
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome back all of our returning Lafayette families and offer a BIG welcome to the new members of our Leopard community.  The PTA Board is thrilled and looking forward to an outstanding school year and cannot wait to see you at our events and fundraisers.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook and visit the website to stay informed on the calendar of events, volunteer opportunities, and areas where we may need your support.

New this year is the PT-Avenue website which will provide a portal to all things Lafayette and resources for parents beyond PTA communications.  Ideally we will also be able to generate a school directory from this software and send communication blasts as well.

Another new program this year is the purchase of school supplies by the PTA.  We will need your support in the form of a donation to cover the costs of the supplies at a highly reduced price point compared to purchasing it on your own. Our suggested donation is $30 per student. Here is a link to donate:

Once again, welcome to Lafayette Elementary 2017-18 school year!  We look forward to building and supporting our school community together with you all.

Cheers!

UPDATES
Amber Zeddies, PARENT EDUCATION
One of my favorite quotes is from Michelangelo, "I am still learning." Every day I learn something new, from my kids, neighbors, peers, or around the world. The PTA remains committed to fostering learning for our Lafayette community. Throughout the year, we will be hosting free opportunities to learn more about topics ranging from sexual education, bullying, diversity and inclusion, and first aid. We are seeking input for other topics you would like to explore together.  Please email azeddies@hotmail.com with ideas.

Chris Weinmann, ENRICHMENT
We expect a full schedule of after-school enrichment classes and activities this year.  Watch for fall session enrollment material, via email, the PTA website, and/or paper materials, in the first week of school.  Enrichment classes will start the week of September 25.  If you are interested in helping develop our enrichment program going forward or just have general feedback or questions, contact our Enrichment Coordinator Kathy Johnson, lafayette.enrichment@gmail.com or Enrichment Chair Chris Weinmann,  cweinmann@karrtuttle.com.  We plan to assemble an Enrichment Committee this year to make sure the program keeps evolving.

Christy Pudduck, SPIRIT WEAR
Hey Leopard Pride! We are feeling the Leopard Vibes! This Fall we are launching a NEW spirit wear program at Lafayette!  Lafayette kid’s and adult’s tees, hats, coffee mugs, water bottles and other fun things will be available for purchase at the Back to School BBQ on September 5!  If you can’t make it to the BBQ, you’ll have more opportunities to purchase or contact Christy Pudduck, christy@coastalseattle.com, to get your entire family geared up and in the spirit!!

Ellen Zoffel, GARDEN & SUSTAINABILITY
The Lafayette Science Garden Program is one of our students’ favorite things about our school!  We are excited to announce the donor partnership with The Robins Family Trust to expand our science garden.  Because of this generous donation, Lafayette has plans to integrate the garden into every aspect of our curriculum, including art, science, writing, and social studies. Additionally, our students will have two new dedicated classrooms.  A Maker Room for project planning and creation, and a Garden Grow Room to extend all garden projects inside. These classrooms give teachers and students the opportunity to create and learn outside the bounds of normal class work.

This is an enormously exciting development for our school and we look forward to keeping you updated on our other “projects in the works.” These include solar panels, outdoor greenhouse classroom, weather station and more!

Jodi Hill, FUNDRAISING
When we fundraise, it provides funds for vital components of the school, including;
  • Classroom Tutors
  • School Counselor
  • School Supplies
  • Special Education Instructor
  • Instrumental Music
  • Enrichment Programs
  • Curriculum
  • and much more!
