News from the Studio
I would like to begin by saying thank you to each of you that took the time to visit, phone, email and send flowers and cards with your condolences. Losing my Mom has truly been one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through and having the love and support around me has been so helpful! I am truly grateful and I thank you all!
People keep asking me when I will get back to painting. The honest truth is…I don’t know. Another common question “isn’t painting therapeutic…can’t you pour your pain on to the canvas?” Well, for some painters, yes, they can get rid of their pain through painting but that is not my way. For me, when I am at the easel, that is my happy place, that is where I am truly at peace. So when I am under stress or upset I find I cannot paint. I am currently reading a biography about Monet called “Mad Enchantment” by Ross King. In the book, he quoted Monet as saying “the painter is dead” after his wife and his young son died. He was unable to paint for a very long time and then one day he picked up his paintbrushes again and created some of the best masterpieces of his entire career! When my Mom died, this was something I could completely relate to and there have been moments when I wondered if I would ever be able to paint again…but this does give me hope. I am starting to venture back into the Studio. I am not painting yet, but I am wanting to be in there…looking through my art books and photos and getting ideas. I have no idea what I will paint or how it will look, but one thing is for sure, I will paint again when the time is right!
Art Lessons
I am gearing up for my fall “Painting in Oils” classes that begin on September 17th. I am thrilled that both classes are nearly sold out with only ONE spot left in the Thursday classes. If you are interested in the final available spot please go to the website by clicking here. Several of my past students will once again be returning as well as some new faces. Really exciting! I will share some of the fun in the next newsletter.

Painting from the Vault!
This painting was a commission painting of Cathedral Mountain at Lake O’hara. Since this is one of my most favourite places to paint in the world…the painting was a real joy to do.

With wild fires burning across British Columbia and throughout much of the United States I do pray that all of you stay safe and that your homes are safe as well. It has been a very difficult time for so many people and I for one am looking forward to happier times. Wishing you all the best until next month.
