AGG Co-op welcomes new chair and director

The Australian Grain Growers’ Co-operative (AGG Co-op) has welcomed some changes to its board with a new chairman and new director appointed at its most recent board meeting.

Richard Konzag has been elected as Chair and Eyre Peninsula grower Jordan Wilksch appointed to the casual director vacancy. These changes have occurred following Andrew Polkinghorne stepping down from the chair position and foundation board member Andrew Barr retiring from the board.

The new director positions will be voted on at the upcoming Annual General Meeting, to be held at the Yorke Peninsula Field Days on Wednesday 27 September 2017.

Incoming chair Richard Konzag said the Co-op was grateful for both men’s commitment to their roles.

“Andrew Polkinghorne has served the Co-op since its inception and we are grateful for the dedication and enthusiasm he has brought to the board, in particular, in successfully rising to meet the business challenges of the past few years,” he said.

“We wish him well as he steps aside from the chair position to focus on his farming business and other agricultural interests.

“Andrew Barr has also served the Co-op tirelessly since its foundation and his scientific knowledge and farming experience will be missed on the board but not lost to the Co-op and its future needs. We wish him well as he retires to spend more time on other commitments within the agricultural industry and his family farm at Pinery.”

Managing Director Bruce McDonald said the team is looking forward to working with Mr Konzag, a grain grower at Mallala in South Australia’s Lower North who was appointed to the board in September 2016.

“Richard brings years of experience to AGG including qualifications as a graduate from the Institute of Company Directors and service as a GRDC Southern Panel member,” Mr McDonald said.

“We are fortunate to have such talent available and we’re excited to have him lead the team.”

Mr Konzag currently crops about 2500 hectares to wheat, durum, barley, beans, lentils, canola and oaten hay. He has served in positions on the SA Advisory Board of Agriculture, the Plant Biosecurity CRC Grains Advisory Panel and the Research Development & Extension Committee (RD&E) of Grain Producers SA.

Mr Konzag said the Co-op was pleased to welcome its newest – and youngest – board member in Jordan Wilksch.

“Jordan is a passionate grower who understands the changing landscape of farming for the next generation and we look forward to his insights and innovation,” he said.

Jordan is married with four children and farms with his family as Wilksch Agriculture at Yeelanna on the lower Eyre Peninsula. He has previously served as chair of the Lower Eyre Agricultural Development Association and as a committee member of the Eyre Peninsula Agricultural Research Foundation. He is currently a member of the Cummins & District Enterprise Committee.

AGG Co-op has recently opened its 2017 AGG Stars pre-harvest program for contracting until 29 September 2017. Designed to enable growers to spread price risk pre-harvest, AGG Stars uses active management of wheat marketing between now and April 2018 using commodity futures and options, managing foreign exchange and making physical sales to capture opportunities as they come to light. Further grain marketing programs will be opened for contracting in October 2017.
