Just a reminder to please check your child’s hair for nits and lice. We have had a few cases in the school last week and do not want this to spread around. If you could also tie your child’s hair up if it is long that will help them not becoming infected. Your child can only come back to school once the hair has been treated. Thank you!!!!

SCHOOL FEES
WE DESPERATELY NEED PARENTS TO PAY THEIR SCHOOL FEES ON TIME!!!!!!!!
We rely specifically on collection of all school fees in order to pay salaries and bonuses. Please make sure that you keep up to date. Our teachers and staff spend a great deal of time and effort preparing and planning in the best interests of your children and give them a superb learning experience each day.

With much thought and deliberation the Board of Governors and myself have decided to change from the accounting system currently being used, SageOne, back to our old system Pastel Xpess. Although Sage One is a terrific system, is has not been user friendly and for our school. Over the next month Jane with the help of a Pastel rep, will be moving data to the old system and you will see your statements reverting back to their original look. We feel that it is the best interest of the school and all involved. Thank you for your patience here.

Please make contact with Jane if you have any fee related questions.
Please check your statements and let us know if you have any queries.

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

We have a roster on the notice board. Please fill it in on a week that will suit you. We require 4 x 2 litre containers each Wednesday, so two people could provide on one day. If you do not have containers please fetch ours from the office a day or two before.

Class News

Sea Horse

Good Afternoon fhpp family 😊
I hope everyone is doing well.
Firstly I would like to apologise to parents for the shortage of staff last week, we all had a very hectic week, but this week our class and school will be up and running as normal.
IQ THEME: Dinosaurs
EQ THEME: Persistence / Resilience
Our theme remains the same this week. I must say our class is enjoying the dinosaur theme. Last week we had quite a few kids absent due to flu. Due to this I’ve decided to stay on our focus number, we are also busy with our last touch ups on our art pieces for Friday evening ( 1st Sept) , the seahorses will be busy bees all week 🙂🙂🙂.
Please try your utmost best to support our art auction as your child worked very hard to complete the art pieces as individuals and groups.
SHOW AND TELL
Wednesday - my favourite cookie
Each child is allowed to bring one of their favourite cookies to talk about.
NB !!!
Please don’t send your little ones with toys to school. Monica and I are finding it very hard to keep track of everyone’s toys on a daily basis.
Our behaviour chart has been working well with behaviour management.
Our EQ theme persistence is definitely kicking in with the persistence in behaviour. WELL DONE SEAHORSES!!!
Stay blessed and have a fantastic week 😊☺😊

EQ: Waiting and persisting
General: Occupations
Language: Letter Q q
Mathematics: Mass/ Weight. Heavy and Light , No 8,The Calendar, Numbers 1-20

Auction week has arrived. The Auction is on Friday 1st September at the Fish Hoek Sailing Club at the Fish Hoek Beach. The children worked very hard on the various items and are really proud of what they made. Please book baby sitters and try to attend.
I was away on Friday so a big thank you to Aunty Merle for teaching the class. I enjoyed conference and feel that it is important to attend as we learn what is happening in education.  One of the guest speakers Dr John Thurlow spoke about social media and the dangers of sharing certain things. A warning to everyone as people are being affected by what they post on FB or other forms of social media.
The children enjoyed learning about weight. We used balance scales to weigh and compare objects. The children then had to order the objects from the heaviest to the lightest and vice versa. They often confuse length and weight so it is a concept we will continue learning throughout the year. I will be focusing on number 8 again. It’s position on the number-line and sums that make up 8 eg 2+6, 4+4. We will recap ordinal number 1st to 8th.
We continue with our EQ theme of waiting and persisting. It is an on-going topic and a skill that is discussed and learned throughout the year. Every day the children have to wait their turn to show me their work or to participate in discussions but I also link the theme to stories and to problems that arise. Often argument or incidents arise due to children not being willing to wait their turn. When this happens I use the opportunity to link it to our EQ theme.
It was very interesting to learn about your occupations. Most of the children were able to describe what their parents did at work and we had to guess the occupation. We will continue discussing occupations this week.
Last we noticed that a few children still struggle to identify the various letters but once given the sound they can list words beginning with the sound.    We will continue playing phonics games for the rest of the term to help re-inforce the letters of the alphabet and rhyming words. We are learning letter Q q this week. Please continue to send things to school.
Skills to develop and extend at home. Identifying numbers and letters in the environment. Please continue to help your children learn to tie their shoelace. Practise and persistence will eventually get them there.
Fri 1 September- ART AUCTION.
Fri 22 September -Last Day of School and Grandparents Day
Mon 25 September- Public Holiday School is closed NO After Care.
Have a blessed week
Dee and Merle.

EQ:  Persistence/Resilience when trying to attain your goal
IQ:  Birds
Focus:  Visual Discrimination
Number Concepts:  Continue shapes and patterns
Thank you to Mama Patience and Teacher Monica for caring for the Starfish children while I was at the Naptosa conference on Friday.  Always wonderful to attend conference and meet teachers from other schools, hear the interesting motions discussed and guest speakers that attend.
We continue to discuss "Birds" this week, along with Persistence/Resilience when trying to attain your goal.  Thank you to everyone who has brought books or items about our theme.  The Starfish children loved a visit from CJ's Finch "Roxy "on Wednesday.
We have a visit from the Bird man this Tuesday which is always very exciting.
Continue to encourage your child to persevere with their individual and class goals.  I am so proud of all the children who are persisting and being resilient when they are unsuccessful.
Please continue to encourage visual games to strengthen their visual perception.  Puzzles, pattern games, 3 D construction games, along with books are great for this skill.  Continue to play pattern and shape games to strengthen these Number Concepts.
We have completed all our items for the Art Auction on Friday 1 September.  We have made 4 mosaic items, 1 table cloth, 5 tray cloths and an individual art each.  The children are very excited and already chatting about who is buying what.  Please diarise this date and book your babysitters NOW.
There are still many parents who haven't signed the form on our Notice Board to allow their child to attend the outing to the Lakeside Fire Station on Tuesday 5 September.  Lifts are needed, urgently.  The Fire Station have requested we park on the road behind or in front of the Fire Station to enable them to do demonstrations in the yard.  Thank you!
Our class will be having a "Talent Show" on Wednesday 20 September.  Talents can be skipping with a rope, juggling, dancing, singing, bouncing a ball, hoola hooping, whatever your child is good at.  Encourage them to practise their talent so they feel confident to perform in front of their friends.
Grandparents Day is Friday 22 September, so please book your grannies and grandpa's for the morning.  I will put up a list to enable you to let me know how many will be attending.  Thank you!
