KEY CHANGE: A CONVERSATION WORTH HAVING

The Regals Musical Society is proud to be supporting and participating in this year's  important annual concert - "KEY CHANGE: A Conversation Worth Having" - which aims to raise awareness and funds to improve the mental health of the many people in our community who struggle with depression. 

The inaugural concert last year "A Conversation Worth Having" was inspired by the tragic passing of one of our talented young musical society members, James Jonathon.  In his memory,  the event not only united like-minded performers in the midst of mourning, and offered an opportunity to discuss and understand this potentially-devastating illness, it was also a wonderful showcase of entertainment across our communities with just under $30,000 raised and donated equally to beyondblue and the Black Dog Institute.

If we can learn anything from the tragedy of James' death, it is that we need to look deeper than people’s public persona, we need to connect with each other emotionally, we need to raise people up rather than put people down, and we should never take for granted how fragile life is and how quickly it can be taken away.  As a collective of creative people, performers may be more prone than most to mental health issues, and we want to address this in a non-stigmatising, safe and educational way.

This year's concert, just like the inaugural one, will include musical items from each contributing society, as well as important discussions around mental health in our community. 

The Regals Musical Society will be represented by Tom Ragen - the lead performer in The Regals next production of "Catch Me If You Can".

The date of this year's concert is Saturday 2 September 2017 at 7.00pm at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.

For those who are unable to attend, the concert's organisers have created an option for people to  DONATE ONLINE  to beyondblue, in memory of James. Beyondblue’s vision is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.
