Luke Buescher Uganda

Dear Friends and Family,
I pray this letter finds you abiding in the love and joy of our Savior.

"the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love." Eph 4:16
We just completed week 8 here at the institute, our topics this month have been the attributes of God, the Fatherhood of God, Idolatry, and Biblical Manhood/Womanhood.

Agricultural Training

On top of Institute classes and Language learning, Matt and I have been spending some time at the Pastoral Training Institute (PTI) run by New Hope Uganda. The PTI teaches pastors through the Bible while training them to be self sustained through agricultural projects. The reality for the village pastors here, is that the tithe and offerings from their church simply isn't enough to sustain the pastor and his family in a healthy way. Most pastors already have land that they farm for food, so by teaching them agricultural and entrepreneurial skills we can invest into the long term health of the church, the pastor, and the pastor's family.

Apart from the piggery, the chicken farm, and the grain storage facility that the Terebinth team is already working towards in Gulu, the doors are opening for another agricultural endeavor that Matt and I would be able to build, run, and train pastors and widows in, once we arrive in Gulu. I'll wait to share details about this until the next update as Matt and I are still praying to make sure we would be working with the Lord in taking that responsibility. In the mean time please pray that we would know the Lord's heart, and that His name would be glorified in the agricultural aspect of Terebinth Ministries.

Pastoral Training

As I've been able to build relationships, and talk with my Ugandan Friends here at the Institute, I've had the opportunity to ask them (mostly pastors and ministry workers), what they see as the greatest need in the Ugandan church. So far 100% of the answers have been regarding the need for spiritual depth and Biblical training in the church. I believe statistics say that somewhere around 80% of pastors in Uganda have no Biblical training at all. Although this is a tough reality, it's very encouraging to know that the Ministry I'll be a part of here in Uganda is exactely what the faithful men and women of God here see as the need.

Bit of a Rough Month

Finally, just to give you guys an update on myself, and a bit of an excuse for why my Update is late this month, I've been dealing with some of the difficulties that come from changing to a new country. About half of this month I've been sick with tonsillitis, making it very hard to eat and drink, and keep up with classes. I did a 12 day round of penicillin, and got mostly recovered, but but even being three weeks since I first got sick, my left tonsil refuses to go back to a normal size. Please pray for God to bring the rest of the healing I need, and for His name to be glorified through my sickness and my attitude about it.

One more side note, my camera was stolen this month, so unfortunately I don't have any pictures to accompany my update.
