Notes on reviving a painting practice
Something is about to happen here.

30 Paintings in 30 Days

Beginning September 1, I’m participating in the 30 in 30 challenge, wherein I make a painting a day for thirty days. The goal is to get into a habit of practicing, because only from practice can we get better. At the end, look back on your work to see if you’ve had any improvements. I mean, there’s no way I can become worse, right?

I’ll be painting small, and I bought some new materials (squeal!) in preparation. Lined up on my very clean desk (pictured above) is the SoHo adjustable drawing board, a sketch book, two new pastel surfaces, and—drumroll—a new set (marine) of Caran d’Arche watercolor pencils. Perhaps a product review will follow. Anywho, I’ll post my daily paintings on Instagram and probably have some sort of give-away contest at the end for everyone who signs up for my blog (current subscribers included) during the challenge.

New Blog Post: Salon de Moi

Two weeks ago I had my first solo art show and sale. In my living room (literally in my salon). Even though I was in complete control of the situation and the guest list, I was a bit nervous. I had been working up to this for two years, building confidence along the way by showing my work incrementally on Instagram and my web site, as well as using the word “artist” to answer the unnerving question, “What do you do?”  READ MORE.

Wish You Were There!

Some of you came to my very first one-woman show, Wish You Were Here, held in my home on a warm August 13. And some of you left with some brand-new original art. Thank you! The show was my first “reveal,” as they say on HGTV, to kick off online sales and to prepare for my next season of painting (now that my son is back in school). I know that an August weekend is a hard time to catch people in town, so if you missed my show and are interested in seeing what is available for purchase, take a look at my revamped online gallery. If something catches your eye, let me know. I can ship or locally deliver nearly as well as Amazon
