September Program Reminder

RAPTOR IDENTIFICATION JUST IN TIME FOR MIGRATION

Tuesday, Sept. 5 -  6:45 p.m.
THE EWING MARION KAUFFMAN FOUNDATION BUILDING, 4801 Rockhill Rd. KCMO 64110, in the Brush Creek Room - “Identification of Resident and Migrant Raptors of the Kansas City Area". Birds of prey thrill every birder and very often challenge our identification skills. Mark McKellar, Backyard Bird Center proprietor and wildlife biologist and educator, will help us with those challenging raptor identifications! Mark owns and operates the Backyard Bird Center on Barry Rd. in Kansas City, and he has led numerous field trips and introduced many people to the joys of birding. Before returning to Kansas City, Mark spent more than 20 years as a wildlife biologist, educator, and nature center director in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Missouri.

Please feel welcome to join our host committee and Mark at BoLing's on the Plaza before the meeting. Meet around 5:00 p.m., and ask to be seated with the Audubon party. Otherwise, join us at the Kauffman Foundation at 6:30 p.m. for socializing. Business and program begin at 6:45.

Burroughs meets on the first TUESDAY of each month(*§) at either the Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center or The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Bldg in Kansas City, MO (click on active link for directions).
Free and open to the public.

* Special events and times may be scheduled, including our Annual Dinner in April.
§ No meetings in June, July or August.

FALL NATIVE PLANT SALE AT BACKYARD BIRD CENTER

Saturday, September 23 - 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Native Plant Sale at Backyard Bird Center, 6212 NW Barry Road, Kansas City, MO. Proceeds from the sale benefit savanna habitat reconstruction at Charlotte Sawyers Natural Area in southern Platte County. Fall is a great time to add native plants, trees and shrubs to your yard. The warm soil and cooler daytime temperatures allow the plants to focus their energy on root growth, for stronger plants in the spring. In addition, natives are well adapted to our region's climate, and they nurture our pollinators. We offer the highest quality native plants available from our friends at Missouri Wildflowers Nursery (MWN). Need help selecting plants? Visit the Audubon Native Plant Database or MWN websites for guidance. Also, please call MWN with pre-orders before September 19 at 573-496-3492, or email: mowldflrs@socket.net.

September Field Trips

TO VARIOUS KS AND MO LOCATIONS

April Fools! Not likely to find this one...
Burroughs field trips are free to Audubon members and the public, and people of any age or level of experience are welcome to participate! Any trip may involve walking on a variety of terrain and surfaces, but some trips will be more strenuous than others. Trip leaders can advise you of the physical activity involved. Since we visit a number of wild areas and habitats, we respectfully ask that your pets not accompany us on the trail. If they're not given to vocal excitement, crated pets in vehicles are fine.
