How I ran my kids like an Atlassian team for a month

Being a parent looks a whole lot like managing at team. To be effective, every team needs a mission and a core set of values. Establish goals and find a way to gamify the process. Run regular retrospectives to address areas that aren't working as well as they could. Unifying a team behind a common set of goals lets the team  self manage, ideal for teams of kids and adults alike.

Communicating the decision is the critical second step to making the call. A lack of  information and context means people will fill in the blanks themselves. This can result in undue stress and/or frustration.  Making the call is only half the job of a leader, the other half is communicating the call.

Manager-Employee Conflict

Conflict is an inevitable part of the workplace. Managing your emotion is often the hardest part of conflict. Be aware of your natural reaction to conflict. Resolving conflict is a collaborative process. The shortest path to resolution lies in finding a win-win option for those involved. To work through conflict, find the root cause.  Establish common ground, and listen without emotion. Collaborate to find solutions that works for everyone involved, and establish the specifications. Schedule a followup to check back in. Conflict will happen. Instead of reacting with emotion, take steps to work through it together.
