Our Monthly Meeting and a Volunteer Activity

Plus One Non-SHL Activity of Interest This Weekend

Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,

Charleston felt the effects of Hurricane Irma this past weekend.  Considering how far away it was from South Carolina, those effects were impressive.  As we deal with the aftermath, I hope you will plan to join us at some activities this coming weekend.

First, the adopt-a-highway trash pickup which was originally scheduled for last weekend was rescheduled for Saturday September 16th.  We could certainly use a few more hands helping us clean up our portion of Harbor View Road.  (This volunteer activity not only is a chance to get out and do something good, it helps advertise our group by giving us a permanent sign on the road, and besides it is actually rather pleasant.)  For more information or to RSVP, please click here.

Then, our first monthly meeting of the new season will continue as scheduled on Sunday at 4PM at Gage Hall.  The meeting features a presentation by CofC physicist Jon Hakkila who will discuss the amazing results of his research and what it reveals about the structure of the universe.  After that meeting, we will stay in Gage Hall for a pizza dinner to which all are invited.  You can read more about the monthly meeting here.

Finally, although it is not actually an SHL event, we have been invited to participate in an Interfaith Pride Service at the Unitarian Church at 6:30 on Sunday (conveniently, right after our "pizza party" next door).  We hope a good number of secular humanists are in attendance to demonstrate our unity with and support of Charleston Pride.

Please do reply to this e-mail if you have any questions or if I can assist you in any way.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend at some of these events,

Alex
