"3 Lakes Tour" Bike Event

The Northwest Alliance Community Foundation (NACF) is hosting a 3-day bicycle tour Sept. 29 – Oct. 1, as a fundraising event for its Environmental Fund. The “3 Lakes Tour” will set out from Coon Lake Park in Frederic on the morning of Sept. 29. The first day’s ride ends at the municipal campground in Shell Lake, with Balsam Lake as the destination on day two. On the third day, the riders return to Coon Lake.

By riding the scenic back roads of rural Wisconsin, cyclists will cover approximately 45 miles per day on the planned route.  A typical supported tour is more likely to be 60 or more miles per day, but to quote the rider organizer, Mark Buley: “No one should be disappointed by the short mileage tally, the hills on the "3 Lakes Tour" will make up for that.” Adding: “If you only travel locally by car, you may think this part of Wisconsin is pretty flat.  By bicycle things look different, but every climb is followed by a glide providing almost enough rest to do it again on the next hill.”

This is a supported tour, with a van to carry camping gear and a daily rest stop to provide water bottle refills and refreshments.  Riders are still welcome to join by registering by Wednesday, Sept. 27, at NACF’s website, www.northwestalliancecf.org/bike-event.  Cyclists can also participate in less than the full ride but will need to provide their own transportation to join or leave the tour.

Each rider will pay a $25 registration fee, which will go to cover such things as refreshments and campground fees.  In addition, full-tour riders are asked to make a donation of $100, and day-riders a donation of a dollar per mile. Members of the public are also invited to make a donation on behalf of a specific rider or in support of the cause in general. The donations are a tax-deductible gift to the NACF Environmental Fund and can be made at www.northwestalliancecf.org/bike-event.
