Massage Therapy can help with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the inflammation of the nerve bundle running through the tunnel of the palm side of the wrist. It is often painful and accompanied by numbness, tingling, and trouble grasping or carrying objects. Often times the pain is worse in the evening and can interfere with sleep. Your predominantly used wrist and hand are more likely to have this syndrome. The nerve that is affected sends signal to the thumb, first finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger but does not affect the pinky finger.

Carpal tunnel syndrome has a variety of causes, but those who frequently do repetitive movements are more likely to suffer from it. However genetics and predispositions are contributing factors. Women are almost twice as likely to experience carpal tunnel syndrome than men are. Those who have repetitive motion jobs (examples: desk jobs, construction, landscaping), where the same action is does numerous times every day are prone to suffering this syndrome.

Massage with Valerie or Amber can help by relieving pressure and tension that tight muscles and poor posture may be putting on the carpal tunnel. By working the muscles attached to the shoulder girdle, upper arm, and forearm massage therapists can often reduce or eliminate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. By reducing tension and stress along the nerve pathway the numbness and tingling dissipates, along with the pain.

Results from massage treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome vary greatly, as it does with most afflictions. The patient's physical health, genetics, medical history, work history, and more has an effect on how the recovery during treatment times will go. However, on average, you will typically see positive results after the first one hour session. Follow up treatment is nearly always required, especially if long term results are desired. Valerie and Amber report that for those that are recently affected by this syndrome, one treatment can have great results with lasting effects that leave the person feeling significantly better. This treatment can be done very modestly and if needed through a t-shirt when working the upper arm and shoulder girdle area. Although being able to work directly on the skin (and the muscles) is often times most effective with more immediate results.
