Whitireia Publishing is pleased to bring you the latest edition of our newsletter. This newsletter helps us keep in touch with graduates, our friends and supporters in the book trade, current and future students, and our colleagues at Whitireia. If you know anyone you think would enjoy getting the newsletter, please forward this to them or get them to subscribe here.

In this issue we turn on Track Changes, pull out our red pens and delve into editing: the practitioners, processes, and perspectives. Jane Parkin, one of New Zealand’s most respected editors, reflects on her experiences in the publishing industry. We hear from editors new to the industry, and we learn a little about what it’s like to work as an editorial assistant at one of New Zealand’s big trade publishers, Penguin Random House.

Important Dates:

  • Interested in a career in editing and more? The Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied) is New Zealand's top training course for publishing. Apply before 30 November!

Jane Parkin reflects on editing

Over her 35-year career in editing, spanning many changes to the publishing industry, Jane Parkin has worked with some of New Zealand’s leading authors. In August we had a chance to ask Jane some burning questions about the industry, her experiences and her editing process.

Class editors ponder the process

With projects now in full production mode, we caught up with classmates Laura Peckyno, Erin Donohue and Keogh Bradley to hear about their experiences editing a range of different texts.
