AND SO SUMMER ENDS
Moving right along... two months later. So yesterday ended a ridiculous workload that began about 12 months ago. An unrelenting year of art, creating, and corporate shenanigans. I feel like an undead extra from The Walking Dead. So, with this weight removed from my shoulders, I'm taking the rest of the month to recuperate and re-vitalize, and then get back to creating with renewed spirit and energy.
WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO
This little snapshot encapsulates my year in books, as side from a couple things I can't legally share. But all in all these are a few of my favourite things. NOVA: Resurrection which I co-wrote with Jeff Loveness and also handled the art on, along with studio-mate Scott Hepburn. This TPB collects the entire run, and it's a fun one. you can pick it up at your local comic shop, Amazon, or at any reputable bookseller. Next up is JANE, which is a modern day adaptation of the classic novel Jane Eyre. Adapted by Aline Brosh Mckenna (The Devil Wears Prada and Crazy Ex Girlfriend) and myself, the book is a whopping 200+ pages.  The graphic novel is available for pre-order on Amazon with a street date of September 19th 2017.
Also arriving on the shelves this month is a Spider-Man one-shot featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales in a Ditko-era-esque story as part of the Marvel Generations line-up. the book is written by Brian Michale Bendis with art by me.

Last, but by no means least, is RAID.ONE our first full length anthology from RAID featuring the talents of Taran Chadha, Anthony Falcone, Scott Hepburn, Ian Herring, Irma Kniivila, Nimit Malavia, Francis Manapul, Gabe Sapienza, Marcus To, Gibson Quarter, Eric Vedder, Joe Vriens, Tri Vuong, Tonci Zonjic, and myself.

It's is perhaps the the thing I am most proud of, as it is a step forward for myself, and RAID as a whole. If you'd like to snag a copy they are available directly from us at RAID.

RAID, and why it's important

In 2006 I joined RAID (Royal Academy of Illustration & Design) and an inner group of us spun off and created Transmission-X (or as it was eventually branded: TXcomics) which is where Kukuburi began. A decade later I am RAID's CEO, tell that to high school me.

With this year being the studio's 15th anniversary, we've been going through a lot of growth. Incorporating, redefining ourselves through our business and independent strategies, branding through social and our new site (which will be hard launching shortly), and moving into publishing internal projects. That last bit is one of the most  important bits as it's the foundation of things to come, and Kukuburi is a part of that.

Discomfort breeds change, and over the past couple couple of years this has summed up my experience. With the new year around the corner, 2018 promises to be a banner year of continued growth, but also a year where you'll be able to hold a complete volume of Kukuburi in your hands.

Thank you for reading, and next time, I promise a lot more process sketches and story development as I officially embark on Kukuburi!
