Michael Kareken Studio Visit

This summer I visited the studio of the very talented artist, Michael Kareken, documenting his latest large-format painting, "Windshield." I've known him and his family for years, and we own several of his pieces, but I had a revelation about his work when we were talking about his process.

Donated Headshot

I've gladly donated a headshot photography session to IFP Minnesota's Fall Fundraising Gala. It's a $400 value, and last I checked the bidding was at $140. You can bid on this, as well as many other cool items, (including photographs by Terry Gydesen and Alec Soth, a painting by the above-mentioned Michael Kareken, or Hamilton Tickets) on the auction website. Don't delay; the auction ends on September 22nd.

Fall Classes

There are two chances to learn how to become a better photographer this fall; I'm teaching a 4-week class at IFP Minnesota on Thursday evenings starting October 19th, and a two-day bootcamp at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts on September 23 & 30. Both courses are aimed at beginners, and we use iPhones (or another mobile device) for shooting and editing. I love teaching beginning photography classes with a mobile device because students can focus on the creativity right away, without first having to learn a lot of technical things. See my course schedule.
