SESARF Workshops: now open for booking

In order to establish key themes and elements for inclusion within the South East Scotland Archaeological Research Framework (SESARF) a series of three workshops have been scheduled to target different sectors within the archaeological community.

The aim of these workshops is to be as inclusive as possible and to allow everyone with an interest in the archaeology and heritage of the area to have an input in the Research Framework. We also want to establish a Working Group who will commit to providing specific content and expertise over the next 18 months or so. We are particularly keen on welcoming early career researchers to contribute to the framework.

The workshops will each be one-day events broken into two sessions, that of Looking Backwards in the mornings to discuss what the known archaeological and heritage of the areas are and then Looking Forwards sessions in the afternoon to consider what we would like to focus research for the areas on.

There are three different workshops for different audiences:

  1. Commercial Archaeology Units, Consultants, Academia/Higher Education
  2. Museums, Attractions, Conservation and Curatorial Bodies
  3. Community, Volunteer, Avocational

The workshops are free to attend with tea, coffee and lunch provided.

Registration open - Society for Museum Archaeology Conference 2017

The Society for Museum Archaeology convenes for its two-day  conference every autumn. Held in a different region of the UK each year, it usually addresses a theme of topical interest and attracts an excellent range of speakers working across all sectors of archaeology. The conference is an excellent place to learn more, meet new people and to enjoy visiting world class venues. The AGM also takes place at this time.

This year's theme is - "It’s not just about the archaeology – or is it?"

When you work with archaeology in museums, you can end up doing a huge range of activities.  Whether it be the delivery of exhibitions, engagement and events, or good old-fashioned collections management, what is the role of the modern museum archaeologist?  This year’s conference is an opportunity to celebrate all things good….or bad…about what we do and how we do it!

Where: Millennium Gallery, Sheffield

When: Thursday 2nd – Friday 3rd Nov 2017
