State Finalizes Solar Energy Credits, with Mixed Reviews
In mid-September, New York State revealed its new compensation system for solar and other renewable energy, which replaces net metering with a Value of Distributed Energy Resources system. Industry groups and others have spoken out against the new regulations. Learn more.
New York Amends Law, Making PACE Financing More Accessible
New York’s State’s Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing program has been expanded to apply to a wider range of energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements as a result of legislation signed in September by Governor Cuomo. Learn more.
Civic Ensemble Hosts Story Circles About Climate Change
Participate in a unique project bringing together theater and climate change. Join Civic Ensemble for a story circle about climate change this October. No preparation needed. Free "Compost with Confidence" class. Master Composter Volunteers provide information and demonstrations on how to set up and manage a successful compost. This class will focus on winter composting. Learn more.
Agriculture and Climate Change Workshop

Climate change will continue to impact every farmer's’ ability to grow and distribute food. Agriculture is one of our greatest tools for reducing the effects of modern industrial society on our global climate, but it also one of the greatest contributors to climate change. Come learn about how we can work together as a community to ensure stability and security in local food production. $25-50/person sliding scale. Learn more.
Net-Zero Energy Building Design Workshop
November 6-7, 8:30am-5pm, EcoVillage Ithaca
This two day training will focus on design and construction details to achieve net-zero energy use in new buildings. Continuing education credits are available. Learn more.

The Ithaca Sustainability newsletter is a collaboration between the City of Ithaca and the Town of Ithaca. Both municipalities have a fundamental commitment to protect and enhance economic, community, and environmental resources. Currently, they are focusing primarily on environmental sustainability, working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within government operations and community-wide.

Current Initiatives

Ithaca Green Building Policy
The GBP project is studying energy and water efficiency standards for new construction, and ways the City and the Town of Ithaca could promote or mandate standards. Join the mailing list.

Electric Vehicle Deployment Community
 The EV Deployment Community, coordinated locally by ITCTC, will bring 11 new level two EV charging stations to our County in 2017 and provide outreach to support EV use in 2018.

Energize NY PACE Financing
The Energize NY Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing service offers long-term low-cost financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
