Mocksville, NC – Davie County Emergency Management continues to keep a close eye on Hurricane Irma and proceeds with preparations to handle any impacts to Davie County as a result of the storm. Changing forecasts continue to make it difficult to determine the storm’s effect on Davie County and residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
Based on information received from the National Weather Service earlier today, Davie County should anticipate:
--Monday afternoon and evening winds 25-30mph gusts to 40
--Rain to arrive Monday morning, more intense Monday afternoon/evening into Tuesday morning, 2-4 inches
--Isolated tornadoes possible Monday afternoon and overnight
Due to the potential impact of this storm on our area, residents should make arrangements that would enable them to be self-sufficient for 72 hours. Residents are urged not to panic, but to prepare now. The following are suggested items to have on hand during this storm:
--Water
--Necessary medications
--Oxygen (for individuals who require this assistance)
--Flashlights
--Batteries
--First aid kit
--Food, water and other essential items for pets
--Fuel in vehicles if it should become necessary to leave a residence.
--Cash
--Board games, cards, etc.
In addition, residents are encouraged to keep cell phones charged in advance of the storm. Also, a source of information is ReadyNC.org and serves as an excellent source of information when planning for emergency situations.
In the event of widespread power outages, emergency shelters will be established. Two locations, the Brock Gymnasium and Cornerstone Church, are both on standby and will be used for shelter in the event of an emergency. A storm emergency phone line (336-753-6160) has been established to assist residents with issues that may arise from this weather scenario.
