A Word From Wendy

Fall is here! Leaves dancing in the air and the wind whipping the trees into skeletons as they lose their summer clothes, remind us of approaching winter. Cooler days, harvest time, Fall decorations, Halloween, and All Saints' Day are right around the corner. Each change of the seasons brings with it a new season in our lives. As the seasons change and we are aware of the outside changes around us in our environment, let us also pay attention to the changes that take place inside us.

The mysteries of God unfold within us just as they unfold outside of us in nature. Encourage the mysteries of God to unfold in your life by paying attention to the small things in life: the touch of a friend, the sound of a voice raised in song, a mourning dove on your window sill, a tear on the cheek of someone you love, or the smell of a wood fire or cookies baking in the oven. When we pay attention to the small details of life and savor them, we begin to become more aware of the small ways God touches our lives each day with good gifts. We are much more likely to hear God's still small voice within if we have trained ourselves to pay attention to the small details of our lives, that in this hurried world, might normally go unnoticed. Look for God in the sky above, in the voice of a child, in your feelings of well-being or unrest. God speaks to us in so many varied ways. "Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10) May this changing of the seasons be a new season of growth of us! -- Wendy

Operation Christmas Child
National collection week for Christmas Shoeboxes is November 13-20. As you are doing your holiday shopping, consider filling a shoebox to bless children in need around the world. No time to shop? Build a shoebox online. Or consider a contribution toward the $9 per box shipping cost. Visit https://www.samaritanspurse.org or contact Linda Hawthorne for more information.

Pastor Swap

Please plan to join us for worship on Sunday, October 22nd when Wendy's husband, Rev. John Goodwin, will bring the message. John is the Interim pastor at Potosi Presbyterian Church where Wendy will preach on October 22nd. John has been serving other churches since he and Wendy relocated to Steelville and this "swap" will allow us to get to know him better.

We Found a Lost Sound!

Our new bell tower has been erected and Kate Bell had the honor of ringing the old bell in its new home for the first time. This could not have happened without the efforts of many people including the Bell family and Steelville Manufacturing. Thank you also to Brown Tree Service who set the tower and the bell at no cost to the church!

Congratulations To...

Lisa DuLany on the birth of her granddaughter, Charlotte Amelia Akey, born September 4, 2017. Charlotte weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. and was 20” long. Parents are Aaron and Stephanie Akey.
