The PRISM Quartet's Matt Levy conducts the first test of a computer-interactive video system created for "Waveguide Model 1," a new work by filmmaker Mark DeChiazza and composer Dan Trueman. The actual work will include four large square projections, one for each member of PRISM, and 8 mics spread throughout the stage that will send data to a computer that shapes images over a series of "Color Chapters." Dan's music consists of detailed instructions and extensive melodic and textural material that leaves space for PRISM to improvisationally "paint" with sound.
"Waveguide Model 1" will be premiered on Breath Beneath, a "Discovery" project exploring the intersection of music, interactive technology, and time-based visual art. The program also includes works by filmmakers Bill Morrison, Eli Stine, and Jan Boiton, and composers Julia Wolfe, Jacob TV, and Kati Agocs.
