Dear Boston-area friends--

I hope you got the message that, due to circumstances beyond the control of Mme. Drif and ourselves, Just World Educational has been obliged to change the schedule of her upcoming speaking tour of the United States, "Memories of Algeria's Freedom Struggle." Mme. Drif will not now be able to participate in the events we had planned for the Boston area on September 12 and 13.

We are working with the hosts of those events and other friends in the Boston area to try to reschedule those events for the period Sept. 20-22, and will let you know when those plans are finalized. (If you might be interested in helping to plan this rejigged version of her Boston visit at such short notice, please let me know.)

At this point we remain hopeful that the public events in the New York City and Washington DC legs of the tour can continue as planned. I will let you know if that changes. You can also check the tour-related listings on Just World Books's public calendar, where we will always post the latest updates on all the legs of the tour.

Here are the details of the public events that we're currently planning to hold for Mme. Drif with the help of colleagues in NYC and Washington DC:
Sept. 14, 12:30 pm, NYC: An event at New York University’s Kevorkian Center for Middle East Studies, at which Bill Quandt will be the discussant. Link.

Sept. 14, 6 pm, NYC: A book party in Manhattan's East Village, hosted by Mr. Abdeen Jabara, Esq. Please note that registration for this event is now closed as the list is full.

Sept. 18, 1:30 pm, Washington DC: An event at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, with David Ottaway as the discussant.

Sept. 19, 6:15 pm, Washington DC: An event at Georgetown University, facilitated by Prof. Lahra Smith. Link.
Do tell your friends in those cities about these events.

IBA coverYou can find out more information about Mme. Drif's tour and her just-released memoir, Inside the Battle of Algiers, at the foot of this email I sent out Saturday. The present email is a special notice to friends in the Boston area. Please circulate this news widely to the people in your networks.

I thank you for your patience as we deal with our present challenges.

Warm good wishes--

Helena.
