About The La Musa Series

Although Peter G. Buchan is known for his Chopstick Drip Painting technique, he recently took a departure from this art form and immersed himself in a study that echoes back to his earlier years as a pen & ink artist. Buchan reconnected with his artistic roots after dining with a friend who is an ambassador of the arts for the Mexican American community. Buchan was inspired to create something reflective of his friend’s culture, so doing it the old school way, he traded his chopsticks and paint for pen and ink, and thus began to draw a collection of Dia de los Muertos images.

The drawings began to take a life of their own, as the soulful goddesses beckoned him to draw just one more, culminating in 10 exclusive, original images. After Buchan completed these drawings (enough to satisfy the Gods and his artistic craving) he returned to the chopstick drip method and re-awakened the dead, painting 3 more muses. All paintings are one-of-a-kind originals and the prints are limited edition, with no more than 10 copies made of a single image.

Have Chopsticks Will Travel!

Artist Peter G. Buchan was commissioned to do a large restaurant sign for a chain of delicious breakfast restaurants, called the Griddle. Many of our fans know that Pete paints mostly freehand without sketching out his works beforehand. But because commissions are often client-directed works, he usually takes out the sketch book before the chopsticks. Check out this Facebook video on his thoughts of sketching vs. dripping.
