Dear WoMena supporter & follower

We here bring you the latest news, updates and activities that we have been occupied with since last newsletter.

June. WoMena was represented at “Society for Menstrual Cycle Research” conference i Kennesaw, Georgia. This was a great opportunity to spread awareness about WoMena and our work amongst other menstrual hygiene enthusiasts - huge thanks to Laura Hytti from the Uganda office!

August. The Denmark office was gathered to discuss the current status of WoMena as well as future prospects - very exciting projects are coming up both for the part in Uganda but also in Denmark, which we will reveal more about later!
Project Updates from Uganda
Menstrual Health Pilot Intervention among adult volunteers - Buikwe District, Uganda

With the Icelandic Embassy as donor, WoMena works in assessing whether adult volunteers like the menstrual cup, and would want to recommend it for schoolgirls in their local District, Buikwe, as a strategy to reduce school dropouts.

The design of the initial pilot is to provide 50 adult female volunteers consisting of teachers, counsellors and district staff, with training on menstrual health and menstrual cup use and distribution of menstrual cups to all volunteers in June.

Following a period of three months of use, including two follow-up visits and a WhatsApp group for continuous support on menstrual cup use, WoMena will facilitate the evaluation of the menstrual cup use among the volunteers in September.

Results of the initial pilot will be presented to the district for a decision on whether to continue to a pilot introducing menstrual cups to secondary school girls.

WoMena's Very Own Male Hero - Biking for Menstrual Health
Stijn receives WoMena T-shirt from Marianne, WoMena Director, and Petra, Communications Advisor, in Geneva.
16 July Stijn Van Parys started a journey of his life. In a year, Stijn is biking from Belgium to South Africa and will dedicate his trip to WoMena, by campaigning for women and menstrual health throughout his journey.

To overcome the taboos on menstruation, it is crucial that we get both men and women involved and we are therefore extremely proud to send Stijn on his journey to spread awareness about the importance of menstruation and reproductive health.

3 August, Stijn visited Marianne Tellier, Director of WoMena, in Geneva and received a WoMena t-shirt to spread awareness on his trip. Next Spring we expect to welcome Stijn at our office in Uganda.

We will follow Stijn and share updates from his trip and we hope that you will do the same so that we can use this opportunity to confront taboos and place menstrual health on the agenda.
