The Lloyds Bank Foundation invests in charities supporting people to break out of disadvantage at critical points in their lives and promote practical approaches to lasting change. To apply you need to be registered as a Charity or a CIO and have income between £25,000 and £1 million in your previous accounts.

Support can be provided through our two grants programmes Enable and Invest, along with an optional support programme (Enhance) for successful applicants. These programmes demonstrate the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to support charities that have the greatest impact on improving the lives of disadvantaged people and their communities.

INVEST: – The Invest programme is a flexible, long term core funding programme for organisations delivering clear, targeted outcomes for disadvantaged people. These are typically around £25k p.a. with the potential to fund for up to six years. This programme is open for applications between 29th August and 22nd September 2017 with grants being made in April 2018.

ENABLE: – A grants programme for organisations that have identified clear development needs in areas such as governance, planning, evidencing need monitoring, communications etc. Grants of up to £15k are available for you to develop your organisation.

All grantees will be eligible for additional support through our ENHANCE programme –providing an option of tailored in-kind support to strengthen and develop charities.

The District Council’s consultation on its car parking policy is now live and taking place across the district until 18 September.

The review comes about following recommendations by the Community & Environment Committee, 16 March to review various aspects of the car parking policy.  These include:-

  •  charges for season tickets

  •  charges for permit holder car parks

  •  charges for 3 and 7-day permits

  •  bringing some existing free car parks into charge

  •  making some existing free car parks available for permit holders only

The free car parks in question are Ashbourne’s Cokayne Avenue, Cromford Market Place and Lime Yard, Matlock’s Edgefold Road and Wirksworth’s Canterbury Road and North End.

Publicity for the review states that “It’s important to stress that no decisions have yet been made. Feedback from this survey will go to a meeting of the District Council on 16 November when councillors will consider whether to make further changes to the parking policy.

“We are not proposing to change any other aspect of the existing Parking Order and our residents should note that the annual Residents’ Free Parking Concession issued to every household annually is not part of this review. People will, of course, ask us why we are considering changes to the existing policy – and we understand this. The fact is that successive central government grant cuts, including a further 20% for 2017/18, make it harder than ever for us to provide the front line services that residents need. We have to find additional ongoing savings of £1.6 million over the next three years and, if possible, aim to do this without substantially increasing the financial burden on Derbyshire Dales Council Tax payers. This means we have no choice but to explore new income areas and to continue to review all our services to achieve further savings and efficiencies.”

All village hall charities will have a governing document that sets out the village hall trusts and the constitutional structure. Rural Action Derbyshire has organised a training seminar on ‘Understanding your hall’s governing documents and how to amend them’.

The session will include:

  •  Understanding your governing document

  •  Explain what it means to be a corporate village hall charity

  •  Why it is important to review and update a charity’s governing document

  •  Knowing when to either change or amend a charity’s governing document

  •  Understanding your powers to amend and the correct procedure to follow

  •  How to notify the Charity Commission of any changes made

The Peak District National Park Authority is working with Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales District Council and other partners across Derbyshire to deliver a package of support for businesses within the visitor economy sector. The project is part of the Growing and Developing the Visitor Economy Sector within Derbyshire programme funded by the England European Regional Development Fund.  The National Park is leading on the £450k ‘Pedal Peak Business Initiative’ strand of the project which will increase the competitiveness of Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) to create a welcoming destination by stimulating and supporting a number of tourism businesses that are cycle friendly and contribute to a growing economy.

The project is :

  •  Developing a cycle tourism toolkit for businesses

  •  Developing a local Cyclists Welcome accreditation

  •  Launching a £150k small grants scheme to enable businesses to offer good quality experiences for types of cyclist

  •  Delivering workshops and events to enable businesses to understand the cycling market and to maximise benefits

  •  Promoting cycle loops and itineraries for residents and visitors around the four cluster areas

Rural Action Derbyshire has organised a training seminar on PAT testing delivered by Quick Test – the session is relevant to village and community halls, parish & town councils, schools, church organisations or any small rural business. Quick Test working with RAD to help keep your organisation safe with a Portable Appliance Testing workshop.

  •  You are required by law to ensure that the electrical appliances you supply in your community building are safe!  The IET code of practice  recommends visual inspection and PAT testing as a means to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of your appliances 

  •  If there is a fire in your hall the insurance company may reduce the pay out if you cannot produce your PAT testing records even if the fire was not caused by an electrical fault.

  •  The safety of your electrical appliances is important every day. Not just the day the PAT testing is done.  A regime of checking the condition of appliances in your hall is so easy to put in place.

  •  Save the cost of hiring a contractor  by PAT testing yourself

  •  Convenience – You can PAT test at your convenience rather than that of the contractor

  •  Even if you don’t want to carry out your own PAT testing you will know what your responsibilities are.  You will know what your PAT testing contractor should be doing and when.

  •  Common Sense – you do not have to be an electrician to PAT Test

  •  Half a day of your time

The half-day workshop delegate fee is £98 +VAT – a good investment for your organisation over time, as it could save you the cost of regularly hiring a private contractor as well as helping you to keep your community buildings and premises safe.
