Winner of UK Education Guide’s £250 Education Bursary Prize
Thanks to all those who entered our recent Competition to Win £250 to put towards educational expenses. The competition closed on 31st July.
We are delighted to announce, the Competition has been won by Shaun Mattingley.
Shaun's daughter attends Felsted school and he told us the Prize money will be put towards travel costs: 'As I live in Switzerland, my child must fly back home every school holiday. Her school is next to Stansted airport and we live near Geneva but these flights only go in the ski season. This money will help us greatly as she could then get a taxi from her to school to accommodating airports rather that going alone through public transport'.
A new school and University year is almost here!
Good luck to all students starting their first term at a UK University or School. It’s a daunting prospect, but at UK Education Guide we wish you lots of luck and enjoyment at your new school or college.

UK University enrolments down in 2017
A drop in applications from European Union and mature students resulted in 416,310 applicants being placed in universities and colleges, down 7,570 (1.8 per cent) year-on-year, according to Ucas data. Lower ranked Universities saw the greatest decline, down over 5% year on year.

Theresa May’s determination to continue counting foreign students in the government’s immigration target left her increasingly isolated after official figures released on 24th August revealed that fewer than 5,000 a year stay on after their visas expire.
There is now growing pressure on the Prime Minister to remove Students from the net migration targets the government has set.

Top of the list is the Everyman cinema which offers a wealth of events and films in a great, welcoming venue that also offers bar food.
Also recommended is the live jazz night at the Old Duke pub. The pub is also based in a lively area with plenty of craft beers and ales to try.
Beeses riverside bar also has live bands in the evening and a great location beside the River Avon.
Evening boat trips up the river Avon through the Avon gorge are impressive and the Clifton suspension bridge is lit up at night. Alternatively, if you are not a fan of boat trips the Avon gorge hotel has a lovely view of the gorge and the bridge.
Places to eat
The Clifton Sausage comes highly recommended. Based in Clifton village which has lots of bars and places to eat out, this restaurant has a great reputation and offers 5 course wine tasting dinners and other events alongside an exciting regular menu.
Other top reviews are given for Casamia, offering English and European food, The White Rabbit which offers Italian food and Hao Wei for Asian food.
Shopping
Cabots Circus is a great place for teenagers to shop in Bristol with over 90 stores. It is adjacent to the main Broadmarsh shopping centre in the centre of Bristol.
The West Country is also known for brewing cider and so to take home something from the area, a visit to the Bristol cider shop is recommended.
