Corporate Member Update, September 2017

Good afternoon, my name is Cristina and as some of you already know, I am the Regional Chair for NAWIC London and South East, your region.

I am writing today to ensure that you and your team are aware of how to make the most of the benefits we have to offer as part of your membership. The reason for this email is that it has come to our attention that some of our corporate members are not enjoying its full potential because, for example, memberships are not always activated.

On this email, I will provide some key pointers which we would be grateful for you to share with those who your company has assigned the memberships to, and to remind you of some of the challenges which may be affecting the way all of you enjoy your NAWIC Membership benefits.

As ever, I am available to respond to any additional queries on nawicLDN@nawic.co.uk as so are the rest of the team members on the email addresses provided at the bottom of this one.

Importantly, should you lose this email, you will also find a permanent reminder on how to reach us on the website (HERE

I hope you find this email useful.
Kind regards
Cristina Lanz Azcarate, London and South East Chair

ps I realise that some of the content was part of  the newsletter you received on Monday but please read and share within your team (especially with the person who administered the memberships to make sure they spread the word.) We need your help to spread the word within your organisation

OUR WEBSITE

The NAWIC website is full of information but some people don't realise to what extent, and hence we want to explain some key things:

About us: This section on the website offers insight on our history, structure and key regional contacts, collaborators and teams.

It also provides access to the NAWIC rules for you to understand the way we run as an organisation. The rules are particularly relevant to corporate members because they include a clear explanation of the way membership assignation (within corporate memberships) works. (LINK)

Become a member: Although you are a member, you may not be aware that within this section, among other things, there is a FAQ section where you will find answers to common questions. We have found this to be very useful to our members. (LINK)

Events & Awards: Self-explanatory but worth mentioning. Within the forthcoming events section, London and the South East has a live calendar and a permanent link to our Eventbrite page, from which our event administration is organised.

At NAWIC, we collaborate with many groups and organisations including several award organisers such as WICE and GIWA. We think awards are an important part of this collaboration because by shining a light on the talent our industry has will inspire others. No doubt, awards offer both individuals and companies a great exposure too. (LINK)

Members' discounts: We are very lucky to have a great network of collaborators which include high profile event organisers and trainers who believe in NAWIC's work and who are only to happy to offer special rates to our members.

Please note that you will need to be an active member and be logged in to access the information contained in this section.

Current offers include: (LINK)
FT Women at the Top, 27 September, 10% OFF
Towards CIOB Charteship 20% off

(Sign in and find out more)

Learning Zone: Our website has a designated resources area which is full of useful documents, articles and links. (LINK) What you might not be aware of is that in order to access those, you will need to first log in.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Following on from the above, we are aware that some of your team members may not be clear the benefits that being a member brings to them, and that this may be a reason for them not to have activated their membership.

With this in mind, allow me to share a few key Facts and Figures for London and the South East:

In 2017 we will have:
  • hosted 2 members-only training sessions
  • 2-free members-only networking events
  • 1 members-only MIPIM event
  • We are also looking to host the conference in November which will be free to members
Our members will have had priority in the booking of events such as site visits, debates and skills building sessions.

In addition to this, the members will have:
  • paid circa £50 pounds less than non-members in tickets (so far) and
  • could have saved up to £710 from the various discounts we have negotiated on your behalf (as explained above)
Another benefit is the opportunity to participate in the projects and activities run by NAWIC:

There are opportunities such as:

  • careers/schools: pls email LDNeducation@nawic.co.uk
  • hosting/speaking: pls email nawicLDN@nawic.co.uk

Or projects such as

  • “The image of construction “ in collaboration with Photographer Morley Von Sternberg (LINK)  LDNBook@nawic.co.uk
  • “Construction Marketing Toolkit” in collaboration with Diana Chrouch from Chrouch Consulting (LINK)  LDNTools@nawic.co.uk

These projects are in line with our core objectives :

  • A shift of focus from gender to ability.
  • Levelling the playing field across the industry.
  • Ending of stereotypes

They allow us to collaborate and strengthen our links within the network and offer you an opportunity to be involved in something which is different

MENTORING

After years of collaboration, we have now formally joined forces with Fluid Mentoring, a pan professional project specifically set up to support the development and retention of talent within construction. Run by Built By Us (BBU), it is supported by:

  • Royal Institute of British Architects
  • Architects for Change
  • The Construction Industry Council
  • National Association of Women in Construction
  • Women in Architecture

Quite a few of our regional committee members have been part of the programme with all NAWIC members benefiting from it for a few years and it felt right to formalise the collaboration and contribute to its growth

The launch of the 2017 edition will take place on Wednesday 27th September from 6.30pm at the RIBA, 76 Portland Place, London and the call for mentors and mentees is open.

9 October,  Returning to work Panel session and networking lunch

Although this event has sold out, we have reserved one ticket per corporate member to ensure that the benefit of this discussion can spread to your own company. Please email nawicLDN@nawic.co.uk with your designated person to get your ticket

NAWIC and Women Returners invite you to a networking lunch and panel session to discuss various issues concerning returning to work in our sector. The panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities of returning to work after extended career breaks, sabbaticals and maternity leave and how the sector can support and facilitate returners.

This event will be relevant to all those in the industry considering either maternity leave, an extended career break or a sabbatical (whether for travel or study) or returning to work from them, along with those who work in human resources in the sector.

26 October, London Build "The future of construction" debate at the Women in Construction Tea

Learning from experience, for our 2017 we were keen to do something different and shift the focus from speaking about diversity as the main point of discussion to a panel discussing a topic which could be of interest to a wider audience, discussed by a diverse panel of professionals.

With this in mind, we gathered a group of collaborators from a range of disciplines and we can share that it will be worth attending (LINK to free ticket)

Following an introduction of the the speakers and the context for the panel by London and South East Chair, Cristina Lanz Azcarate, Maria Coulter (from Construction Coach) will chair a discussion which will cover subjects as wide as the impact that sustainability will have in the future of construction, addressing the skills gap and the industry's mental health, the importance of ethics within construction and the hidden for graduates .

November, Conference
Details to follow shortly.

ADMIN

Email:

1. Single point of contact:

We are aware that some corporate members have chosen to register every membership to one email address. (i.e. different name/surnames but all using one point of contact) Although we have no rules against this, please be mindful that should this person leave, or be absent when we issue a communication, the rest of the members may miss out.

2. Blocked emails:
As a volunteering Association, we have no office and each one of us volunteers from various locations. In order to manage enquiries in the best possible way, our team has several email addresses (please see below) allocated to different roles.

Should any of those be blocked in your system, your team may be missing out.  We would, therefore, advise you to let your members know of them in order to be alert.

2. Renewals:
Renewal notifications will go to all the active members. This is, each one of your members should be informed. As above, please make sure the emails are "safe"  in order to be reminded.

3. Accessing information from the website:
In order to access the information on the website, you must be logged in. To do so, you will need to activate your memberships. This will be done by our team.
How:
  • Once you Register as a corporate member and process the payment, you can email a full list of name, surname, and email to treasurer@nawic.co.uk
  • Anna, our treasurer, will then activate the memberships for you and send you a temporary password.
  • From then on, you will be able to access via the Members Sign In (LINK) and change the password to one you will remember.
4. Updating personal information:
Should anything need to be updated (someone in your team got married and chose to change their name,  changed addresses,  are going on maternity leave and have no access to your work email…) they can update your profile by logging on to the website. Should they experience difficulties, do let us know by emailing LDNmemberships@nawic.co.uk
