Are you ready for some football? You know that we are!

It was an exciting first full weekend of the high school and college football seasons and we are excited for the NFL season that started last night. We watched the Patriots-Chiefs along with several recovering service members from Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir at our Home of the Free … Because of the Brave annual dinner.

We hope that you are as pumped up for the season as we are. The DC Touchdown Club once again will select its high school football player of the week (read more below about this week’s honoree) and we are starting to plan for our sixth annual Awards Dinner in the spring.

Of course, as usual, Touchdown Club members will enjoy the finest hospitality at this year’s Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. This year’s game, matching teams from the ACC and American Athletic Conferences, will be played on Thursday, Dec. 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Tickets should be on sale within the next month. We hope to see you there.

Let’s sit back and enjoy a great season.

Yours in football,

Steve

MARYLAND

Sherwood (1-0) at Damascus (1-0), Friday, 6:30: The host Swarmin’ Hornets come in with a 29-game winning streak; their last regular season loss was nearly four years ago on Sept. 20, 2013, 7-6 to Quince Orchard. Sherwood should pose a challenge however. Expecting a large crowd, Damascus is collecting “Mud Out Buckets” to send to Katy, Texas, to help with Hurricane Harvey cleanup efforts.

VIRGINIA

Broad Run (2-0) at Woodgrove (2-0), Friday, 7:  The host Wolverines feature a high-powered offense that has helped them win 21 consecutive regular season games. Keep an eye on RB Josh Johnson, who has already rushed for 371 yards and four touchdowns.

PRIVATE/DC

Franklin (1-0) at DeMatha (1-1), Friday, 7: The Stags should get a test in a rare test against a local public school. Franklin, from suburban Baltimore, has won at least 10 games in each of the past five seasons.
