Presidents Report

We are now building to the opening of a new season which will culminate with the Aussie Titles at Scarborough in April 2018. It’s a great opportunity for Trigg athletes to excel in our conditions.
Registrations are well underway and we encourage all members to join up as early as possible.
Winter has seen a lot of activity.
Many members participated in the Pool Rescue competition with some outstanding results at both State and National levels.
Congratulations to Lachlan Meldrum and Maddie Thomson who were recently chosen in the Australian Youth Pool Rescues squad working toward the National Youth Team for the World Championships.
The AFL Grand Final is on September 30 2017. As with previous years there will be an event at the Club.
The Friday Night draws will commence on October 6 2017. As Doug Bandy won the draw before the break the amount will be $100. The draw is for financial members over 18 who are present at 7pm. Meals will be available following a similar format to last season. Come down and catch up with your friends. Please check the catering roster to see when your section has kitchen duties.
Requalifications are now being programmed so watch out for the dates and requal as early as you can.
Welcome to the coming season.

President

Trigg Island SLSC Caretaker’s Position to become available mid October 2017

Following the decision of our caretaker Rob to return home to friends and family after being away for nearly 2 years we are now seeking expressions of interest for caretakers of Trigg Island SLSC Inc. This will be offered to and through current Club Members, and you are welcome to pass this opportunity to friends/family.

The care taker role is a ‘live in’ position for a single person or couple, and involves general cleaning, rubbish removal, maintaining security of the Club and liaising with Members, contractors, suppliers and venue hirers. (Please see attached the duties and responsibilities statement).

A one bedroom flat (attached to the Club) and a single car parking space is provided. The accommodation is valued at circa $40,000 per annum based on rental rates in the local area. No remuneration is associated with this position. A written caretaker’s agreement will be negotiated with the successful applicant(s).

Written expressions of interest detailing any relevant experience, relevant to the role, can be dropped in at the Club office during working hours no later than Friday 15th September 2017, marked - Attention Director of Finance & Administration.

Questions about the role can either be informally directed to the current caretaker, or to the Director of Finance & Administration (finance@triggisland.com). See below to download the criteria for the position.

Help required - Looking for a Kiosk Supervisor

The club is seeking the services of a volunteer Kiosk Supervisor to manage the kiosk on Sunday mornings during the surf season.
Role:
The kiosk Supervisor will be required to facilitate/manage a volunteer roster of members predominately from the junior parents each Sunday morning.  The kiosk operates on approximately 4 volunteers (including the Supervisor) each Sunday.
Times:
The Supervisor is required to be at the kiosk at approximately 8.45am to open up and turn on the equipment.  The rest of the kiosk volunteers commence around 9.30am.  Finishing time is around 12.30pm which includes clean up.
General:
The kiosk last season provided chips and a sausage in a bun to members.  It is a traditional part of the club’s Sunday morning activities.  Without a supervisor or volunteers to help in the kiosk it cannot continue.  It is also a small fund maker for the club which contributes to the club’s operating costs.

Congratulations to Lachlan Meldrum and Madeline Thomson on their selection in the Australian Youth Life Saving Pool Squad.
They are now working towards selection in the Australian Youth Team for Worlds in November 2018! Their hard work is paying off for them to be noticed by National selectors.
Well done Lachlan and Madeline!

Trigg Youth Update

The coming season is approaching fast with re-enrolment already underway and new members’ registration is on 16th September 2017. I have undertaken the role of Youth Manager for the season and will be working with all youth from 13 – 19yrs. I am looking for parents or some older club members who would like to support the youth by being on a committee to assist with the running of Sunday mornings, social functions and photography.

There are also development camps coming up for different age groups. The TOAD camp is for 13 – 14 year olds and runs from Monday 15th January 2018 to Thursday 18th January. Please consider if you are looking to learn about leadership opportunities for the future. Applications will be out early October and under 14 youth members are encouraged to apply.

The Rise Up camp is for 15 – 17 year olds which will run from Monday 8th January to Thursday 11th January. Under 17 and first year under 19’s are encouraged to apply.

There is also a coaching and development camp in Geraldton 24 – 25 January 2018 in Geraldton prior to the Geraldton country carnival on 26-27 January.
There are also opportunities for youth members from 14 – 18 to become Age Group Manager Assistants. If you would like to spend more time on helping the juniors at our club then this may be a potential role for you. You would be able to nominate your preferred age group to assist.

Do your interests lie in officiating? If so you are able to attend an officials training course and then be mentored on the beach at carnivals.
Do you have an interest in education then you might be interested in doing the instructors course and helping out with a Bronze or SRC course throughout the season.

The greater your involvement in the club the more you will get out of it. Plus it looks very good on a resume when looking for work.

We are also looking at targeting youth members who would like to train for the life-saving events of First Aid, Champion Lifesaver and/or Champion patrol for next year’s States and Aussies.
If you have been involved in the YIPS program please contact me so I can update your booklet and develop a plan to meet your next goals in the program.

We are trying to expand our Sunday morning activities to include: beach rugby, cricket, volleyball as well as team events to promote a greater involvement on Sundays. We have 16 Sundays that have no other events in the calendar so look forward to a fun filled busy Sunday morning program. A request if anyone has beginner stand up surf boards that they would like to donate to the club for use on Sunday mornings it would be appreciated. I can be contacted at jen_peter@bigpond.com or 0419952749.
