  • There is a new literary eatery - Fatty Lumpkin's - coming to downtown next summer!

  • Bring Your Own LLC (a zero waste store) is opening in the airstream on S. Main on October 6th.

  • The Friendly Fermenter - a brew-your-own beer business - just opened on the corner of Mason and E Market. 

  • GG's Gourmet Goods has recently opened a new location in Mt. Crawford. 

  • There’s a new catering collaboration with Mama’s Caboose and Dayton Tavern called Dayton Catering Co.

  • RISE is hosting The Mac and Cheese Off October 15th for local amateurs and chefs to try their hand at creating the best mac and cheese for the public to try and vote for their favorite. 

  • JMU’s X-Labs won the governor’s technology award!

  • The Virginia Department of Forestry is opening their online store October 2nd with 47 species of tree seedlings for sale to Virginia homeowners.

  • Harrisonburg is in the process of rebranding!

  • The International Festival is celebrating its 20th year in the Harrisonburg community September 30th at Hillandale Park. Visit the many food and art vendors, and enjoy the performances throughout the day. 

  • The former president of JMU – Dr. Ronald Carrier – passed away September 18th.

  • The JMU Marching Royal Dukes have been selected to perform in the 2018 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

We are so excited to have the accomplished and incredibly talented artist, Brenda Hounshell, display her artwork in the Wilson Downtown Gallery for the months of October and November. We so enjoyed having her last year, and are excited to see her new works this year! Come join us for the First Fridays Art Opening October 6th from 5pm-8pm at the Wilson Downtown Gallery! There will be light refreshments!
