Swircles and teasles at the August KEME Seminar
Dear KEME Volunteer -

Many apologies for the silence over the past few months. However, I can now say that I've submitted my Masters dissertation, graduated, started a new job and moved house - phew!

Jane and I hope you've continued to enjoy knitting swircles and experimenting with them in the meantime. We are now organising the final parts of the project and compiling all the results. With this in mind, below are some final dates for the project and activities in which we hope you'll want to participate.

Thank you once again for your support and ongoing commitment to the history and study of knitting,

Rosalind

Publishing the Project

Jane and I are in the process of writing up the project for publication in the Archaeological Textile Review - which will ensure that all of your hard work is recorded. If you would like to have your swircles included, please send one fulled and one unfulled swircle to:

c/o Rosalind Mearns - Archaeology
College of Humanities
University of Exeter
Room 300
Laver Building
North Park Road
Exeter
EX4 4QE
United Kingdom

Please post your swircles to arrive no later than 28 February 2018 and include a sample of the fleece (if appropriate) and yarn. Label them with your name and details of the yarn. Keep the other pair for your own reference and so you can complete the online questionnaire.

Evaluation of the swircles we have already received is still underway and these will be included in our results. We would also be glad to hear your thoughts on participating in the project.

Final Seminar

The Centre for Textile Research, Copenhagen, will be hosting our final KEME seminar on Sat 7 July 2018. It would be lovely to see you in person if you can make it. It will be a day to share our results and talk about how you can use what you've learnt to further the study of knitting. Full details will be released closer to the date.

The event will be part of the SAXO Summer School on "Textiles and Fashion in Theory and Practice through 3000 Years". Further details of the 10-day course can be found here. It will also host the launch of the Diamond Edition of the Archaeological Textiles Review, which is devoted to articles on early modern knitting. We hope you can join us!
If you have any questions Rosalind can be contacted at rm572@exeter.ac.uk or Jane can be contacted at Jmalcolm-davies@hum.ku.dk

Thank you once again for all your help and enthusiasm,

Jane & the KEME team
