WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE! this week:
Dinner at 5:30pm followed by a program at 6pm in the Christian Life Center. Our meal will be prepared by Pastor Jim Morgan with proceeds going to a local family of five with three young children whose home burned down during last week's storm. Menu: pulled pork sandwiches, roasted potatoes, coleslaw and dessert. Our program is being led by Pastor Keith. We will explore the role of humor in the Christian faith. By looking at examples of some of the church's saints, we can learn how laughter and good humor are gifts. Not that we are to deny sadness in our lives and world, but neither are Christians called to the kind of humorless austerity that some might suggest. Join us as we ponder the humor of Jesus and the saints. We may even laugh a little!

Still Searching for your Small Group?
Come read and react with the Monday Night Discussion Group as we start a study of John Spong’s The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic on September 25. Spong is a retired Episcopal bishop well known for his candor in calling for a more progressive, compassionate Christianity. Some of the chapters in The Fourth Gospel began as ideas expressed in a series of talks Bishop Spong gave here at CUMC several years ago. Spong describes himself as “increasingly drawn to a Christianity that has no separating barriers.” Our eclectic Monday group welcomes members and friends of all ages. Find us in room 116 of the Office Building at 7:30pm, and find book copies online. For more information please contact Francie Mizell at mframize@att.net.
