Why bless the animals?

A long tradition remains a vital link to a man known as St. Francis of Assisi. Many churches across the world remember Francis with a Blessing of the Animals ceremony near his feast day in early October. St. Mark's is one among them: You are invited to bring your pets to this special service on Sunday, October 1 at 9:30 am.

Rev. Craig says, "We bless animals to celebrate the joy and richness our companion animals bring to us." Reason enough to mark your calendars and attend this joyful celebration on October 1.

Come and meet volunteers who foster and rescue, and others who promote the bond between humans and animals. Talk with Dr. Barre of Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center. You will also engage with other eager pet 'parents' and find that common connection with people you may not even know. God bless you and your dear animal pals. See you October 1.  Ruff!

39ers In September

The 39ers social group will not be meeting in September.  Their next luncheon meeting will meet on October 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mandarin Wok.  Please contact Wendy Holman to let her know if you will be attending for lunch and fellowship (858-273-3184) so she can make sure to reserve enough seating.

Digital Art Show

The 14th annual St. Mark's Digital Art and Photography Show will receive printed entries that have a wire and are ready to hang on Friday, October 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Each artist may submit up to three works on the theme "In the Beginning," Entries should be viewable by persons of all ages, and they will hang in the sanctuary of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.  There will be three cash prizes of $125, $100, and $75 awarded by the judge Randall Cornish. The show will be open to the general public Saturdays, October 21, 28, November 4 and 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. Awards Ceremony will be Saturday, October 21, at 3 p.m. in the St. Mark’s sanctuary.  A reception will follow in the Social Hall. To receive a prospectus with complete show details, please visit the church website at stmarksumcsd.org.
